Pre-Med Israel

This summer had a tremendous impact on me. I was given the opportunity of a lifetime: to volunteer in a different country with its own culture and languages. Despite being a foreigner, I was still able to adjust and interact with a variety of patients in a Day Care Oncology unit at Hadassah Ein Karem Hospital. I helped in triage for those who came to an emergency room specifically for patients with cancer, and had the experience of speaking, learning, and growing tremendously from each person I came into contact with. There is so much life and strength in the unit, which is truly unbelievable. Every day made a different joyous or teaful impression on me. My experience showed me how to appreciate what I have in my own life and to not take it for granted. I also developed a close relationship with the staff and witnessed how they truly cared for each patient, with patience. It is important to note, that in my time at Hadassah, they were not “all talk” about treating a diverse population equally, rather they let their actions speak for them in the humblest manner. In addition to the patient interaction and experience “in the field,” the weekly programs of speakers and department tours gave other interesting views and perspectives to Hadassah as a whole. The experience I gained and the memories I made in this month will never be forgotten. I am immensely grateful for this opportunity and would absolutely do it again!

Our first session is well under way!! We began last Thursday at Hadassah Hospital!! The participants are really enjoying themselves! They feel they are learning lots and able to be helpful :) Best of luck!!
