In Israel, the sea is never just a backdrop.
The Mediterranean, the Red Sea, and the Dead Sea each have their own character. Their waters hold danger, hidden life, and striking contrasts that shape the stories and imagery of the Bible.
And there is more beneath the surface - from Jonah discovering that he cannot outrun God, to Israel finding a path through waters they could never divide, and Ezekiel envisioning life returning to a sea known for death.
These waters also became routes that changed history. Jonah’s journey led him to Nineveh, and Paul crossed the Mediterranean carrying the gospel.
