Jerusalem International YMCA - Kindergarten

Jerusalem International YMCA - Kindergarten The Leir Peace Pre-school at the JIY was founded in 1981 and today is under the leadership of director Alexandra Klein-Franke.

Its staff of 25 trained Arab and Jewish teachers provide a warm home-away-from-home for approximately 100 children. The Erna and Henry Leir Peace Pre-school at the Jerusalem International YMCA is a loving and caring environment for children aged 1-5 years. The preschool was founded in 1981 and was the first preschool in Jerusalem to offer bi-lingual, multi-cultural education for young children of all faiths. We help the children develop the ability to use their emotional sources when confronted with challenges and difficulties. We do so in a secure environment which respects their individual needs and helps them grow emotionally and socially. The children enjoy a variety of activities such as swimming, music lessons, arts, crafts and sports. The learning in the pre-school takes place in both Hebrew and Arabic throughout the day and acquiring both languages is done in a playful natural manner through story-telling and game playing. We celebrate the main holidays of all three monotheistic religions, thus creating for our children opportunities of encounter with other cultures and faiths.
