After 2 months begging my pension office to call back in English, I finally got the call โ in Hebrew, again.
When I asked about English, the agent casually informed me, โNobody here speaks English.โ
Normally? I wouldโve hung up. But this was a dayenu-or-donโt moment. So I took the call. *GULP*
Was it smooth? Nope.
Did I understand everything? Also no.
Did I get creative? Yes!
I got out of my head and into the conversation. And it just worked, because this is the kind of Hebrew that matters: real, adult-life Hebrew. Iโm not even in the same zipcode as fluent Hebrew, but thatโs not the goal. The goal is to feel braver and more willing to show up for conversations in Hebrew.
