The Secret To Chabad’s Growth? Offer What American Jews Have Always Wanted

This subject is important to me because the vast majority of Jews absent from the other denominations aren’t heading toward Chabad. They’re leaving altogether.

To be clear, I’m certain many Jews today and historically are more ideological. Especially among the clergy and the scholarly. My hypothesis is regarding the majority.

Also, there are of course other factors effecting denominator sizes - some unique and some societal broadly.

Also, what I describe as originally America phenomenon, now appears to be true about world Jewry.

Also, I do think many Jewish orgs have been moving in this direction for decades, but in a more reactionary way. They’d be better served if this was a conscious, stated approach.

Vetting Charities, The Role Of Trust - The Rebbe’s Appeal For Keren Hashana

Sorry for the tough-love, but we should candidly admit we know very little about the finances of the organizations we donate to. That’s ok, because for many reasons, there’s really no other option.

Therefore we should openly lean into Trust as the paramount criterion. Trust in an individual, a group or a track record is all we’ve got.

Trust was the centerpiece of the Rebbe’s appeal for Keren Hashana when he set it up for the first time in 1953 and it still is as those systems continue to operate today.

P.s. Much of this applies to private kindnesses as well.

Is Fiddler On The Roof Accurate? - Tevye And The Others In Sholom Aleichem’s Comedies

Before you get your pitchforks, I’m not contrarian enough to say the Fiddler is bad. It’s legendary.

Also, the movie and theater adaptions of were decidedly more upbeat and accommodating to the modern viewer than Sholom Aleichem’s more mocking writings.

Still, the building blocks of the original story very much remain and they are caricatures.

Perceived Loopholes In Judaism And Other Religions

The viral zachdfilms piece on the Eruv is at best misinformation but it serves as a great example for just how unserious “religious clickbait” is when it’s produced by someone without any skin in the game or real curiosity.

America’s gift to the world is the good sort of assimilation: assimilating to the liberty of others; that your neighbor need not be coerced or shamed into being exactly like you because only G-d knows the heart of man.
