🔬 המחקרים שזכו במענקים:
• פרופ' מייקל לזר ופרופ' בברלי גודמן – עדויות קרובות ורחוקות לצונאמי שנגרמו בעקבות התפרצות הר הגעש תרה בתקופת הברונזה.
• פרופ' סמדר בן-טבו דה-לאון – המנגנונים המולקולריים המאפשרים ליצורים ימיים, כמו קיפודי ים, לבנות ולעצב את השלד שלהם.
• פרופ' דן צ'רנוב – השפעת ויסות הנילוס והתחממות האקלים על המגוון הביולוגי והיציבות בים התיכון המזרחי.
• פרופ' ניקולס וולדמן – שחזור תנאי האקלים הקדום במזרח הים התיכון באמצעות משקעים מאגם עתיק.
• פרופ' איציק קליין – פיתוח שיטות בינה מלאכותית לשיפור הדיוק של חיישני ניווט.

A flood disappears. A foraminifer remembers🔍🪸🌊

A new publication from the MGM Lab, led by Prof. Beverly Goodman, reveals how Operculina ammonoides records desert flash floods in its shell chemistry!

Following floods in the Gulf of Aqaba–Eilat, Ba/Ca values increased to about twice the background level—and the signal remained for months after the flood plume was gone.

Could these tiny shells help reconstruct ancient rainfall in arid regions? Read the paper to find out.

The study was authored by Prof. Beverly Goodman-Tchernov, Dr. Shai Oron —a former member of the MGM Lab —, Dr. Aleksey Sadekov, Prof. Gilad Antler, and Dr. Timor Katz, representing the אוניברסיטת חיפה - University of Haifa, בי"ס למדעי הים ע"ש צ'רני, אוניברסיטת חיפה Charney School of Marine Sciences, Interuniversity Institute for Marine Sciences in Eilat, University of Western Australia, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, and Israel Oceanographic and Limnological Research.
