I'm sure you have a Hebrew Bible.
But what kind of a Hebrew Bible do you have?
There are many different Editions of the Hebrew Bible.
Yesterday, I was asked by a student the question that led to the discussion concerning the different modern Editions of the Hebrew Bible.
In this discussion I cover the four main sources for modern editions of the Hebrew Bible.
In this video I mention common editions such as BHS, Koren, the Jerusalem Crown, Mikraot Gedolot and more.
You're more than welcome to forward it to your students and colleagues, I'm sure it will help them to better understand their own Bibles.

How do you call your spouse in Hebrew?
How is Modern Hebrew different in this regard from Biblical Hebrew, and why did David Ben-Gurion, the first Prime Minister of Israel wanted to return to the Biblical Hebrew recommendation by the prophet Hosea.

Is the Hebrew Bible is it is before us, is the exact same Hebrew Bible as it was written?
This very important question has religious and historical implications.
A common claim among the Muslims, is that the Jews changed the Torah that they received from Moses. For example, some claim the Jews changed the Torah to “disown” Ishmael from Abraham’s birthright because the Koran contradicts the Torah regarding Abraham’s Legacy.
Well, I reject these claims. They are baseless.
It is extremely far-fetched to assume that there are such changes (we have no evidence for such extreme changes in epigraphic findings or in other textual witnesses for that matter).
However, updating the language, as far as changing an outdated word with a more current one, is something that certainly happened among copyists as we can learn from some of the Dead Sea Scrolls (Some Scholars claim that the copyists of the Dead Sea Scrolls were different than other copyists of their time, as they copied the biblical text with greater Liberty in regards to issues of language)

Bethlehem
The word "Bethlehem" is derived from the Hebrew words "bet," meaning "house (of)," and "lehem" meaning "bread." The name literally means "house of bread" in Hebrew. Bethlehem is a town located in the Judean Hills, It is considered to be the birthplace of Jesus according to the New Testament.
In the Hebrew Bible , Bethlehem is mentioned several times. It is first mentioned in the book of Genesis as the place where Rachel, the wife of Jacob, died and was buried.
Bethlehem is very important in The Book of Ruth which is set in the time of the judges. In the book, Ruth marries into a family from Bethlehem . After her husband's death, Ruth decides to leave her homeland of Moab and return to Bethlehem with her mother-in-law, Naomi. Once they arrive in Bethlehem, Ruth meets Boaz, who is a relative of Naomi's deceased husband. Boaz agrees to marry Ruth and she becomes his wife.
Ruth gives birth to Oved the father of Jesse, the father of King David, who is an important figure in Jewish and Christian traditions.
The town of Bethlehem is also mentioned in the book of Micah as the birthplace of a ruler who will come from the line of David.

In a previous post we've discussed the shortest chapter of the Hebrew Bible.
As you remember, the shortest chapter of the Bible is Psalm 117.
You're probably guessing what comes now.
The Longest Chapter of the Bible!
You are definitely right!
And you don't even have to turn a page.
There is but one chapter separating the shortest chapter of the Bible and the longest chapter of the Bible, as the longest chapter of the Bible is Psalm 119.
Psalm 19 is organized according to an alphabetical order. Each of the 22 Alphabet letters gets 8 verses starting with that letter. It makes it easy to do the math of how many verses we have in this psalm.
22*8=176
Here in the picture you can see the beginning of this song with 8 consecutive verses starting with the letter ALEPH

1 How blessed are those whose way is blameless, Who walk in the law of the LORD. 2 How blessed are those who observe His testimonies, Who seek Him with all their heart. 3 They also do no unrighteousness; They walk in His ways. 4 Thou hast ordained Thy precepts, That we should keep them diligently. 5 Oh that my ways may be established To keep Thy statutes! 6 Then I shall not be ashamed When I look upon all Thy commandments. 7 I shall give thanks to Thee with uprightness of heart, When I learn Thy righteous judgments. 8 I shall keep Thy statutes; Do not forsake me utterly!

In the previous posts we've discussed the longest and shortest word of the Hebrew Bible, as well as the longest and the shortest verses in the Hebrew Bible. today we're moving on from the verse to the chapter - what is the shortest chapter of the Hebrew Bible?
The answer to this question is Psalms 117 which contains only two verses!
In comparison to the longest verse of the Bible (43 words) which we saw last week, the shortest chapter of the Bible has less than half of the words (only 16 words!)

Psalm 117:
1 הַֽלְל֣וּ אֶת־יְ֭הוָה כָּל־גּוֹיִ֑ם
שַׁ֜בְּח֗וּהוּ כָּל־הָאֻמִּֽים׃
2 כִּ֥י גָ֨בַ֤ר עָלֵ֙ינוּ׀ חַסְדּ֗וֹ
וֶֽאֱמֶת־יְהוָ֥ה לְעוֹלָ֗ם הַֽלְלוּ־יָֽהּ׃
Psalm 117
1 Praise the LORD, all nations; Laud Him, all peoples!
2 For His lovingkindness is great toward us, And the truth of the LORD is everlasting. Praise the LORD!

In the previous posts we've discussed the shortest verses of the Hebrew Bible. today we have the longest one. So how long is the longest verse in the Hebrew Bible?
The answer is, 43 words!
And now, I give you Esther 8:9 :

8:9 So the king's scribes were called at that time in the third month (that is, the month Sivan), on the twenty-third day; and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded to the Jews, the satraps, the governors, and the princes of the provinces which extended from India to Ethiopia, 127 provinces, to every province according to its script, and to every people according to their language, as well as to the Jews according to their script and their language.

Records of Biblical Records 3
In the previous posts we've discussed the shortest and longest words of the Hebrew Bible. And now moving on, from the individual word, to the verse. So how short is the shortest verse in the Hebrew Bible?
The answer is, just 3 words!

Here are two of the verses in the Bible containing only three words, the first one is the shortest one, with only nine letters in total. The second one is almost the shortest one, coming in second with a total of 10 letters.

So the Bible has at least two verses that are shorter than the longest individual word in the Bible, Is the longest word has 11 letters and the shortest verses have only 9 or 10 letters.

1 Chronicles 1:1
