Matza is the poor man's bread, the bread of affliction, and the only food the people of Israel had on their departure from Egypt. On the first night of Pesach, seder night, as we remember how destitute we were all those years ago, we commemorate this by making sure that nobody is left alone on this night. It is praiseworthy to invite people to eat and join the seder with us, and it is amazing to see here in Israel how everyone is cared for and how the mitzah of hachnasat orachim (bringing guests into your home) is performed so beautifully.
