A day in Eilat.

Today, we’re going to the Red Canyon, near the camp, for a hiking session!

This canyon is an ancient river made of beautiful orange and red rocks. The way to the canyon is sometimes tricky because of the scales that we have to climb up and down. The layers of rocks made very interesting shapes over time creating a surprising maze. You have to be very fit and flexible to pass the challenges! Thankfully, the leaders are here to help the youngest out. It is important to drink water because there is not a lot of shadowy places. That is why we take many breaks during the stroll.

After this walk, we head to Eilat’s underwater observatory marine. We are free to walk around and either enjoy learning about the sharks or diving into the underwater universe. We can observe the coral reef and the exotic fish.

After three hours of free time in Eilat, we go back to the camp. The bus turns into a giant party! We play some loud music, the leaders start dancing and we all release the last bit of energy left!

Back to the camp, we have a delicious dinner and we light some campfires. We also eat some mokade then, the leaders organise a surprise lotto and each one of us wins a little present. Mahmoud even gets a Galaxy 5!

After this long day, everyone feels tired but so satisfied, we have a long way back to Tamra tomorrow. Good night!

Seminar in berlin with No’al, FIPP and die Falken !
From the 18th to the 24th of November a delegation of volunteers, educators and social workers went to Berlin for a seminar organised on the theme of education and social work. There, they met educators from a German organisation FIPP who worked in schools and afternoon centres. The two delegations took part in workshops dealing with the following themes: socialist education, comparison of formal and informal education system in Israel and Germany, gender and education, handling racist and discriminatory behaviours among children, refugees and personal identity.
While the seminar took place in the countryside (in a small village called Wernupften), 2 days in the program were reserved to go to Berlin. Indeed, a part of the seminar consisted in visiting the work places of some of the FIPP participants. The whole group divided into two and visited two different afternoon centres and a school. The educators who worked in the afternoon centres explained that these places were a safe havens for pupils who did not have anything to do after school. In coming here, they had the opportunity to socialise with their friends, request help for homework or take part in some cultural and sports workshops. The educators who worked in the school explained that pupils would see them when they wanted to discuss of certain issues. They also organised workshops and programmes to help pupils settle their conflict in a non-violent way. Finally they were also offering to take care of the pupils in the afternoon after school.
On top of that, die Falken had organised a visit of Neuköln on the topic of religion. Indeed this area has always been renown for welcoming people of different faiths. On the second day in Berlin, the participants visited the Memorial for the Murdered Jews near the Branderburger Tor.
In the end, despite some linguistic challenges the participants really enjoyed the seminar. The workshops were good opportunities to think deeply about some issues, exchange about one’s experience, compare each other’s professions and forge strong links!

No'al - IVA seminar in Tamra!

From the 27th until to 30th of October, Sameh Youth club hosted a delegation of German volunteers for a 4 days seminar organized in cooperation with the Israeli Volunteer Association (IVA – HaAguda Lehitnadvut) .
On the first day, the mayor came to greet the participants, Ahmed Diab gave a presentation of El Birouni elementary school – where the seminar took place – and finally the IVA held a workshop on contradicting narratives around the history of Israel. In the evening, participants were dispatched in host families.
The following day, Mohamed Abo Elhega (Shoko) gave a presentation of Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed (or No'al) and the local Tamra branch, Sameh youth club. The presentation included the political position of No'al regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and domestic politics. This was followed by a conversation with the founder of No'al in Tamra, Kamal Abo Elhega about the situation of Arabs in Israel. In the afternoon, the group left for Akko where they had a presentation of the population distribution in this city. This was followed by a tour in the souk, the bazar and other sightseeing points. After having been hosted in a fully Arab town and visited a mixed city the group headed down to Kibbutz Kfar Massaryk where they were given a tour.
Saturday morning, Shoko lead a visit of Tamra. This included the old surrounding villages, the fields – where the volunteers picked up olives – the hill with its panoramic view on the town and the old part of the village. There, they were invited by the mayor to enjoy a lunch at a communal house. In the afternoon, Suleiman organized a workshop to reflect on one's life and voluntary service. This was followed by a rally to discover Tamra, organized by Pauline and Claire, the international volunteers in Tamra. Participants went in the main street and had to fulfill different tasks that led them to interact with Tamra's inhabitants. In the evening, a dinner was prepared by Suleiman's grandmother.
On the last day, Pauline and Claire presented their voluntary mission in Tamra and the seminar closed on a wrapping up workshop.
