🌿 The 5 C's of Survival β€” what to carry for unexpected situations.
Based on Dave Canterbury's Bushcraft 101 β€” the most trusted survival framework out there.

The OLT boys learned these this week. Every parent and child should know them.

Cutting Tools β€” Saw and knife. Always.

Cover β€” Rain poncho. Tarp. Stakes. Something to sleep on, in and under.

Combustion β€” Ferro rod and tinder. Always.

Container β€” Waterproof medicine container with a flashlight inside.

Cordage β€” Paracord. Endless uses.

These five things mean the difference between surviving and struggling when life puts you somewhere unexpected.
This is what OLT teaches. πŸ”₯

πŸ”ͺ I'm BD Greenman β€” your Cowboy Rabbi from Israel.

I teach youth. A lot. And parents shouldn't have to spend a fortune on a knife for their kid.

Kershaw makes great knives under $50 β€” and the Misdirect is one of the best. Thumb activator. Great steel. Easy to sharpen. One-handed open and close.

I've owned many Kershaw knives. With my eyes closed I know this is going to perform.

Under $30. Outstanding bang for your buck. Highly recommended. πŸ”ͺ🌿

And this footage? Easier to get than you think.

A few days. A camera strapped to a tree a few minutes from our house. No safari. No zoo. Just a spot where the animals pass through.

This is what's living right outside your town β€” and your kids can see it too. πŸŒΏπŸ“·

Family-friendly hike idea 🌿

Tel Tzora Hike is an easy, accessible spot you can drive right up to. From parking, it’s just a 7-minute walk to the top of the hillβ€”perfect for kids and families.

Simple, short, and rewarding with great views at the top.

πŸ“· Trail cam footage from the forests of Ramat Beit Shemesh β€” and you won't believe what's out there at night.

This is what's living right outside our town. Moving through the dark. Going about their night like they own the place. Because they do. 🌿

And here's the best part β€” this is one of the greatest activities you can do with your kids. Only $50 a camera on Amazon. Strap it to a tree, walk away, and come back together to see what showed up.

🐴 "Here is more of the desert I needed to show everybody. Crazy sand dunes we are in right now." πŸ˜„
Riding near Beit Shemesh β€” and what's around me is anything but a desert.

But here's something most people don't know about these forests β€” every single tree is less than 100 years old. All of Israel was reforested in the last century. What you're looking at was planted by hand, hill by hill, tree by tree.

Look a little closer and you'll also notice the dead ones. Pine beetle blight has wiped out a significant number of trees over the last 20 years β€” a real loss after 80 years of growth.

But what remains is extraordinary. Networks of trails open to everyone. Public land. Miles of riding and hiking right outside the city.

This is exactly the kind of terrain the future OLT farm will have access to. Boys on horses. Open trails. Wide open space. 🌿
Stay tuned for more farm updates. And yes β€” back to the desert. πŸ΄πŸ˜„

πŸ‘‡ Drop a 🌲 if you didn't know Israel was fully reforested in the last 100 years.

πŸ”§ I keep one of these in every single car I own. That's the review right there.

The Leatherman Rebar Multitool. $100 on Amazon. And it earns every cent.

Pliers. Wire cutters and st*****rs. Straight edge blade. Serrated blade. Aggressive file. Three flat heads. Chunky Phillips. Bottle opener.

And the two tools I reach for most at OLT and on camping trips β€” the saw and the fire-starting spine.

It comes with a practical case and has significantly more tools than the Skeletool. If you already own the Skeletool and want to step up β€” this is it.

One more thing β€” for anyone in a place where carrying a blade is complicated, a multi-tool with this many legitimate uses tends to get treated very differently than a standalone knife. Worth knowing.

Most kids today consume.
These boys created.

At OLT, the boys harvested river cane, carved it into working sporks, built a fire, boiled water, cooked noodles, and ate using tools they made themselves.

No kits.
No shortcuts.
Real skill. Real confidence. Real learning.

And the truth is β€” most adults wouldn’t know where to begin.

This is what happens when boys are challenged with meaningful, hands-on experiences:
πŸ”₯ creativity
πŸ”₯ resilience
πŸ”₯ problem solving
πŸ”₯ independence

Outdoor learning changes boys because it gives them the chance to DO, not just watch.
