🧸☀️ Our Teddy Bears' Picnic was a wonderful success at South Abbey NS! The children had great fun bringing their favourite teddy bears to school and enjoyed a lovely picnic with their classmates.

4th Class recently enjoyed a visit to Knockanore Cheese as part of their SESE studies. The children learned about the cheese-making process and gained an insight into local food production. 🧀

A big thank you to the team at Knockanore Cheese for the warm welcome and informative tour. The pupils had a fantastic morning and were delighted to bring home a sample of cheese! 😊

3rd Class recently enjoyed a visit to Baldwin’s Ice Cream in Knockanore as part of their SESE studies. The children learned about how ice cream is made and had a fantastic time exploring behind the scenes. 🍦

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ Sports Day Fun for our Senior Classes! 🏅

Our senior pupils had a fantastic Sports Day filled with fun, teamwork and friendly competition. Along with running races, relay races and sack races, they took part in a variety of exciting activities including tug of war, a giant game of tic-tac-toe, a hula hoop challenge where teams had to work together without letting go of each other's hands, and a wellie kick competition!

🌟 Junior Infants have been busy learning and creating over the last few weeks! From observing the butterfly life cycle and creating colourful artwork to collaborating on beautiful group painting projects, planting seeds and enjoying fun outdoor activities, there has been lots of hands-on learning and excitement in their classroom. 🦋🎨🌱

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ Sports Day 2026 🏅

Our Junior Infants to Second Class pupils had a fantastic day of fun, fitness and friendly competition at Sports Day on Tuesday, 9th June!

The children took part in running races, relay races, sack races, bean bag balancing races and many more exciting activities. Everyone showed great enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the day.

A special guest, 🦊 Foxy from Youghal Credit Union, even joined in the fun and took part in a race!

We are delighted to share that South Abbey was awarded the Green Flag for Travel at an awards ceremony held at Fota Wildlife Park.

Representatives from our Green Schools Committee proudly attended the event to accept the award on behalf of the school. This achievement reflects the hard work and commitment of our pupils, staff, and wider school community in promoting sustainable and active travel.

🦋 Exciting news in Junior Infants! 🦋

Remember our caterpillars from our post on the 7th of May? Well, they have finally transformed into beautiful butterflies! The children were fascinated watching their amazing life cycle and were delighted to see the butterflies up close before setting them free. 🌿✨
