The Cave is a Steiner based preschool service in Wicklow Town, which focuses on the holistic care & education of children aged from 2.9 years to 5 years of age. Emphasis is on traditional and multicultural arts, crafts and songs which correspond with the rhythm & changing seasons of nature, imitation, creative play, sensory integration (doing, feeling, thinking), storytelling and the natural env

ironment. We believe that outdoor play is vital to children's comfort and healthy development. Our Eco Garden is a living environment which awakens the senses and encourages lively and imaginative play. Our garden provides a sand pit and working water pump, and children are free to run, jump, climb, dig, plant and growCurrent research indicates that 'active' rather than passive play has an enormous impact on later learning ability.

💜 From little Cave graduates to primary school graduates! It feels like only yesterday these two beautiful, kind little girls were graduating from The Cave. Now they’ve graduated primary school and are ready for the next chapter of their journey. We are so blessed that they started their school journey with us at The Cave, and it’s even more special that through all these years, they have stayed besties.

To Jenna & Sasha, congratulations! We are so proud of you. Once a Cave child, always a Cave child ❤️

It doesn’t feel that long since these three were running around together in The Cave garden, and yesterday they finished secondary school together. A friendship that started here all those years ago has stayed strong through primary & secondary school, and we couldn’t be prouder watching them grow into such lovely young people. We were delighted to welcome Michael back in TY for his work experience.

It’s so lovely to see friendships that began in The Cave still going strong all these years later. Wishing Callum Michael and Oscar all the luck and happiness in whatever comes next 🥰

We have been very busy watching the magic of nature first hand. Over the past few weeks we’ve had the joy of watching caterpillars form cocoons and turn into beautiful butterflies, and tiny tadpoles growing into froglets.

(Tadpoles are a protected species and we hold the appropriate licence to gather them for educational purposes. They will be safely returned to the exact place they came from once they are frogs.)

Our eggs with baby chicks arrived today and they will hatch in the next few days. It’s been such a wonderful hands on way for the children to learn about life cycles, patience, and caring for nature. 🐸 🦋 🐥

We love celebrating cultures from around the world. This week we celebrated Chinese New Year, the Year of the Horse 🐴 and also enjoyed Pancake Tuesday together.

The children explored traditions, shared experiences, and learned about different celebrations.

We also made sure to get plenty of outdoor play. Fresh air and outdoor exploration are so important for children’s wellbeing and development, even when the weather isn’t perfect. Every day is a great day to play outside!
