An Tairseach Organic Farm & Ecology Centre

An Tairseach Organic Farm & Ecology Centre Organic farming and ecological exploration on the beautiful grounds of the Dominican Convent in Wickl RCN: 20050191

An Tairseach Organic Farm and Ecology Centre in Wicklow Town has been at the forefront of the organic food movement acquiring organic status back in 2006. This was the culmination of several years of intensive work, clearing the soil of chemicals, restoring its fertility, improving hedgerows, laying out pathways and planting thousands of trees. The farm now produces an abundance of organic vegetab

les as well as organic beef and pork. There is a large garden with polytunnels at the back of the Ecology Centre building and a 70-acre site up on the hill. As well as the vegetables and animal grazing areas there is also a wildlife conservation area and a thriving woodland. The organic farm shop at An Tairseach sells an array of produce including home grown vegetables, fruit and meat, other organic produce by local suppliers as well as whole foods, store cupboard ingredients and ecological toiletries and household cleaning supplies. The Ecology Centre provides accommodation, venues and services, offering a number of rooms which can be rented by community groups and businesses. The conference room has full, top of the range, audio-visual facilities and a stage and podium for speakers. Throughout the year a number of courses and retreats are offered along with two 10-week sabbaticals in the spring and autumn. These events focus on promoting ecological education, personal well-being and positive physical and mental health and healing. There are 15 ensuite bedrooms available for rent by individuals or groups for a quiet retreat or reflection time. We also have a cottage in the grounds which is available for short term stays.

Join Kelli O’Donnell at An Tairseach for a series of nutrition based talks this coming Autumn.

Are you considering or in-the process of becoming vegan or vegetarian? Are you worried about nutrition and what to cook for a balanced diet? If plant-based eating is new to you, it can be overwhelming to try and figure out how and what to cook. A well-planned vegan or vegetarian diet can provide all the human body need, if you can just understand how.

In our second talk Kelli will address the many simple diet and lifestyle changes we can make, tools to help make informed choices and resources for information to aid in reducing the risk of cancer on a daily basis.

We have an exciting series of foodie and crafting events lined up for this Autumn at An Tairseach!

If you fancy some hands-on natural dyeing and stamping, we have a workshop for you or perhaps you’d enjoy experiencing the fun and beautiful power of dance and movement as medicine with our Circle Dance evening.

We have some in-person food demonstrations where you can learn the age-old art of jam making, pickling, fermentation and preserving. Our ever-popular Ayurvedic cooking course is back where you can let food be your first medicine & the kitchen your first pharmacy.

We are also hosting a series of evening talks which cover subjects such as how to plan a well-balanced diet for those who are new to plant-based eating and how simple diet and daily lifestyle changes can reduce the risk of cancer.

In addition to these events, we are also taking bookings for our 4-week October Sabbatical which promises to be a transformational experiential learning & healing retreat designed to give you space to rest and rediscover what it means to be incarnate on planet Earth.

Set amidst the diverse landscapes of County Wicklow, the Garden of Ireland, our four-week Sabbatical offers time and space for deep reflection and transformation. It offers an invitation to stop, to return to the body and to encounter the sacred at the threshold where self, community and the living Earth meet.

Rooted in the teachings of Laudato Si’, Magnifica Humanitas, and Ireland’s Celtic Christian heritage, the retreat is designed to provide a place of quiet renewal for those who are carrying the weight of ministry, vocation, or service.

At the heart of the Christian faith is a radical claim: God chose to fully enter the human experience. Through the Incarnation, all of our embodied life on Earth - its joys, struggles, grief, wonder - is intimately known. The human body is not incidental to our faith; it is the very ground of our faith.

Pope Francis in Laudato Si’ tells us that care for creation and care for the human person are inseparable. He calls us to hear both the cry of the Earth and the cry of the Poor as one. Pope Leo XIV’s Magnifica Humanitas reminds us that the human person cannot be reduced to data, efficiency or productivity. Technology, no matter how powerful, will never have the final word on what it means to be made in the image and likeness of God.
