The medical system often knows how to talk about symptoms, treatment, progression, and cures.

But it rarely knows how to support the emotional reality of becoming, being, or living as a disabled person in the present.

This is a massive need that I am committed to help changing through the work of Disability Reimagined.

And one way we’re helping to fill that gap, is through helping the disabled community better understand how they relate to their disability and respond to ableism.

Disabled people should not have to earn respect by being unsupported.

You are allowed to build your life with support on purpose - shame free!

Comment QUIZ and I’ll send you the Disability Archetype quiz so you can learn the pattern shaping how you ask for support, use accommodations, set boundaries, and relate to your disability right now.

We don’t hold all of the responsibility to dismantle ableism. And each time you show up as with your disabilty fully included, what needs to change becomes harder and harder to ignore.

If you’re interested in learning how you personally relate to your disability and respond to ableism, comment “QUIZ” and I’ll send you the link to discover your Disability Archetype.

This is the kind of comment that can make a disabled professional freeze.

Immediately, you begin calculating

Will I sound defensive?
Will I be seen as difficult?
Will this affect how they evaluate me?
Will asking for doubling down on my accommodation become proof that I cannot do the job?

This is exactly how ableism shows up in professional spaces.

It transforms what is meant to be supportive into suspicion.

It convinces disabled professionals that their accommodation is a liability, rather than a necessary tool for performance. And it puts disabled professionals in the position of having to prove they belong while also trying to do their actual work.

Accommodations do not lower the standard. They help disabled professionals meet and exceed the standard without having to work around unnecessary barriers.

Let me know, how would you respond if your supervisor said this to you?

Disabled professionals are often taught to keep disability quiet.

Hide the need.
Minimize the impact.
Avoid looking “difficult.”
Prove you can keep up.
Make support sound optional.

But the thing many of us are taught to hide may actually be where our leadership is being built.

Disability teaches skills most leadership programs are trying to develop:
Adaptability.
Creative problem-solving.
Clear communication.
Strategic support.
Boundary-setting.
Systems awareness.
The ability to keep moving when the obvious path does not work.

That does not mean disability is easy.

It does not mean barriers are acceptable.

It does not mean ableism becomes less real.

But it does mean your disability is not something you need to erase in order to be taken seriously as a leader.

At Disability Reimagined, this is the work:
Helping disabled professionals stop treating disability as something to hide, apologize for, or overcome — and start understanding it as a source of clarity, leadership, and direction.

Your disability does not eliminate possibility.
It changes the form possibility takes.

And when you learn how to lead with your disability fully integrated, you stop shrinking around the thing that may have been teaching you how to lead all along.

P.S. Have you discovered your Disability Archetype? Comment “QUIZ” and I’ll send you the link to better understand the patterns you’ve built in response to ableism.

Comment QUIZ and I’ll send you the link to discover your Disability Archetype.

The five Disability Archetypes are five patterns disabled people may develop in response to ableism:
Concealer: “I’m fine.”

Adapter: “I’ll figure it out.”
Apologizer: “I don’t want to be a burden.”
Advocate: “I need to speak up.”
Architect: “This system needs to change.”
None of these are flaws.

They are patterns that may be active right now.
