ETTA are delighted to announce that we have organised a hands-on CNC Turning workshop for all Engineering and Technology teachers (Junior Cycle - Leaving Cert) on Thursday 3 September 2026. We are delighted to partner with Central Technology Supplies Ltd on this event, and are thankful for the generous support of TPN and TUS Limerick.
Using the Boxford 160TCLi, we'll cover a full Junior Cycle/Leaving Certificate Engineering project piece from start to finish: material selection, correct tooling, machine setup and tool offsets, feed rates, and troubleshooting the issues that come up in a real classroom - loss of communications, tool crash recovery, and the common faults every teacher in a workshop eventually deals with. We will also demo Solidworks CAM on the day.
Owing to the practical nature of the day, numbers are strictly limited.

Hi everyone, just a reminder to please complete your individual response to the Draft LC Engineering Specification by Friday, May 2nd at 5pm.

When doing your submission, please:

Think carefully about the Design vs Manufacture breakdown.

Emphasise keeping the Special Topic and the Design and Make project.

Support the skills assessment but highlight the need to separate it clearly from the project.

Mention the need for proper funding for all schools.

Stress that the course must be achievable within 180 hours.

Suggest avoiding duplication with Technology.

Consider class sizes in your feedback.

Ask for all public submissions to be shared with the development groups before the final draft is signed off.

Also, please send a copy of your submission to your union and school management body — their reps could be key to influencing the final outcome.
