A Sampling of Sun

The sun was out in West Cork today and was so uplifting I didn't mind having 101 things to do today. Feeling so sun-starved at this stage!

Lá Fhéile Bríde Shona Daoibh! Happy St Brigid's Day!

The 1st of February is considered the beginning of Spring in Ireland - we are not waiting for any Spring Equinox!

I didn't have enough rushes to make a St Brigid's Cross, so I made another traditional rush craft for the day, a Brídóg (pronounced 'breedogue'). The name Brídóg means 'Young Brigid' and represents a little baby. As well as being a representation, it was also a no-cost plaything long ago when poverty was rife in Ireland.

End of Year

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas here in West Cork. This photo reflects both my day and the 2 sides of me. Too cold to be in the garden.

On one side, nature, growing flowers, saving seeds (nasturtium), helping pollinators and saving on packaging and plastic. On the other, artificial and blingy decorations! But they were bought in a charity shop, so did so some good. I do have natural decorations too. 😁

Winter Woodland Walk

As today was due to be the only sunny day for days to come, we made sure to get a little woodland walk done, as not done one in ages. At a distance I thought I saw disappointing white rubbish on the woodland floor, but on closer inspection it turned out to be these very short-stalked mushrooms!

I have also created a simple tradition since toddler days, of going and seeing the holly and ivy there and singing the song (can't remember all the words 😆)

Blue November

No winter blues in West Cork yesterday except this gorgeous summery sky and warm temperatures. Was so beneficial and made a walk and being outside joyous. Timoleague Abbey was looking magnificent.

Gingerbread Time

I should have taken the time to get a better photo, but I couldn't wait to devour this gorgeous festive gingerbread muffin made by cousin. Delicious.
