Newcastle Aikido ~ etiquette and terminology series.
Aiki (ćæ°) is often translated as âharmonising energyâ or âblending with.â But its meaning goes much deeper.
It is the principle of meeting force without unnecessary resistance. Rather than colliding with an attack, we learn to blend with it, redirect it and resolve conflict with control rather than aggression.
Aiki doesnât begin with your technique.
It begins with your state of mind.
When we remain calm, centred and connected, our movement becomes more natural, more efficient and more effective.
In Aikido, true strength isnât found in overpowering another person. Itâs found in staying balanced enough to guide the situation without being consumed by it.
This series explores the Japanese words youâll hear around the dojo. Theyâre more than terminologyâtheyâre principles that shape the way we train and, over time, the way we live.
