An incredible find on Creadan Strand as a Fulacht Fiadh along with various animal bones, that could be as much as 4,000 years old were found by local man Noel McDonagh! :D

Thankfully Waterford came out on top in the replay of the 1959 All Ireland Hurling Final between Kilkenny and Waterford. The final score in the replay was 3-12 – 1-10. :D
Excellent picture of the ball being thrown in at the 1959 All Ireland Hurling Final between Kilkenny and Waterford.
Unfortunately, Waterford went on to win the replay of this game,
3-12 – 1-10.

The features in the tower aren't all directly connected to defence, some reflect the basic necessities of life. Pictured is the 15th century garderobe found on the second floor. Often these consisted of a simple wooden seat placed over the "long drop", a shaft running down through the centre of the wall to the base of the castle or tower. All the waste would then pass through an opening and into a moat or river. However the drop beneath the seat in Reginald's Tower is a short one (about 40 centimetres) onto an angled stone that led directly to an opening in the side of the tower (blocked now). The waste then ran down the outside of the tower wall and into the Suir! Unguarded "long drops" led to a number of castles falling as enemy soldiers could climb through them and gain covert (if unhygienic!) access to the structure. It looks like that couldn't happen in Reginald's Tower anyway!

A throwback to five years ago when snow made its presence felt around the country. We are getting a different type of extreme weather at the moment. The tower has seen and survived all sorts down through the centuries, both natural and man-made attacks.

Reginald's Tower framed by the monuments commemorating the sinking of the S.S. Formby and the S.S. Coningbeg. Ninety-eight years ago this coming week both ships were torpedoed by submarine U-62, the Formby on the 15th December and the Coningbeg on the 17th December. The two ships, operated by the Clyde Shipping Company, were carrying general cargo and passengers on the Liverpool to Waterford route and there were no survivors from either ship.
