This has been a busy week as all our TY Students went to the Kilkenny Activity Centre for paintballing and an Assault Course followed by McDonald's. They went in groups of 2 classes over 3 days and everyone seemed to really enjoy it. Thanks to the teachers who travelled with them and to Eddie and his staff at the Activity Centre for giving the students such a fun experience. Thanks especially to the students for their excellent behaviour at the activity centre and in McDonald's. The staff complimented them particularly for their manners and good behaviour which is always lovely to hear, so well done. Here are some photos taken over the 3 days.

Congratulations to TY 3 on winning the best TY Christmas Classroom. Their prize is a free 'feed me Friday' (that's pizza for the class). They were commended for using many upcycled materials and creating their own artwork on desks and walls. Well done also to all the other TY classes, the rooms looked fantastic and it was all great fun. Thanks to our judges Mr Walsh, Ms Lonergan, Mr Tallon and our Art Department for all their help with materials and guidance. Here are some pictures of the finished rooms starting with TY3.

TY 3 visited Mt Melleray today as part of their Religion Module. We were welcomed by Fr. Denis Luke who gave the boys a lovely blessing and a brief history of the monastery. The boys climbed to the cross and observed the monks praying. They then participated in their own class ritual which was beautiful and well prepared. Well done to the students on their excellent behaviour and participation on what was a very memorable day.π

We had a very successful walk on the Greenway today in aid of St. Vincent De Paul. A big thank you to our amazing group of Transition years who turned up today in great spirits and who hopefully enjoyed the experience. We were blessed with a fabulous day and are most grateful to Fintan Stanley from Blue Butterfly Coffe Company for his generosity in providing a warm cup of tea/coffee to our students throughout the day. Please do try to donate to SVP through our justgiving page if you can and help us to reach our fundraising target. I will attach the Qr Scan code below again. I Hope everyone enjoys the toyshow and has a rest tonight. Here are some photos from the day. Thanks also to you the parents for getting the boys there and homeπππ

We had a very educational Bodhran Workshop last week with our Leaving Certificate Applied students and students in the First and Third Year JCSP programme. The boys produced bespoke Bodhrans which reflected their interests and artistic talents. Thanks to Michael for giving them such a wonderful experience and for the impromptu Bodhran lesson at the end of the day. The workshop created great excitement in the school and our students really enjoyed it.

TYs got to participate via Zoom in the ESERO Space Expo. They had talks from various people in this Industry including Astronauts and learned about the various career options in this area and the subject choices to consider to best position themselves in the future. The highlight for sure was the Kahoot quiz which the students took part in online. Our students were competing with many other schools around the country and we won the competition which was a fantastic achievement for the students. Our prize is a Telescope for the College, which we look forward to receiving. Well done to the winning students; Arthur Moull & Cian Cunningham TY 5, Jack O' Neill, Josh Fitzgearld & Jack Decourcey TY 1, Dylan Rockett, Kacper Kowalski & Ivan Kiely TY 4; their knowledge of Science was really impressive.

The Transition Year Class of 2019-20 finally got to celebrate their Graduation on Thursday Oct 22nd in the College Chapel. We had a socially distanced ceremony starting with TY 1 & TY 4, @ 9am, TY 2 & TY 5 @ 9.40am and concluding with TY 3 @ 11am. Prayers and Reflections were read by Br Tommy
Walsh, Mohamed Elhassadi TY 4, Hubert Homa TY 4, Eoin O' Brien TY 1, Peter Walsh TY 2, Eoin Farrell TY 2, Liam Lenehan TY 5, Kieran O' Sullivan and Aidan O' Brien TY 3. The students enjoyed the video montage of their activities throughout the year and we thank former TY student Dylan Hayes for his help in putting it together. The students received their folders which contained a wide range of certificates and awards. We had 17 students who received the Bronze Gaisce Awards, 38 students who attained a Level 1 Barista qualification, 29 Qualified Pool Lifeguards and all 120 students received a 2 year Basic First Aid Certificate. We had a very active St Vincent De Paul Youth Conference and Our John Paul II Awards Group who did great work all year. We had six students who entered the Jaguar 4 x 4 competition coming 3rd overall and winning Best Pit Display. We had 29 students who got to do a Sea Survival Course in the National Maritime College of Ireland in Cork, kindly sponsored by the Port of Waterford which was a fantastic experience for the students. Finally 15 of our students took part in the WLR Radio Play 'Youthquake', which won an Irish Music Radio Award. This was an amazing achievement for our students. The students received some final words of encouragement and praise from our newly appointed Principal, Mr Michael Walsh and our ceremony concluded with some excellent music; provided by two very talented musicians and singers Cain Byrne TY 4 and Liam Frampton TY 5. We hope the following photographs and video montage will enable the TY Parents and families to share a little of the experience as they could not be with us in person.
I wish this wonderful group of young men every success in their studies and in the very bright futures they have ahead of them.
Below is a 5 part video of the ceremony.
