The Maths Week Ireland team was delighted to attend the Bridges Conference in Galway over the weekend. Hundreds of people from all over the world attended, and we showed them Mary Boole’s Curve Stitching activity that uses straight lines to create the illusion of curves.

Mary Boole (1832 - 1916) used this technique to make abstract mathematical concepts more tangible and engaging, particularly for educational purposes. By turning mathematical ideas into hands-on activities, she showed how beautiful and creative mathematics can be, making it accessible and enjoyable for learners of all ages.

There were many great presentations and displays of mathematical arts at the conference. Thanks to everyone who stopped by and spoke with us about maths, art, and the success of Maths Week Ireland.

The 2025 Maths Eyes Poster Competition brought in over 600 entries this year, from 22 different counties and 59 different schools. We were delighted to welcome Hildegarde Naughton, the Minister of Education and Youth, to present the awards for the 37 winners of the 2025 competition.

With so many entries, it was difficult to pick the winners. The quality of the entries says a lot about how young people are seeing Maths in the world around them and sparking that curiousity, creativity, and critical thinking in the every day. Congratulations to everyone, winner or not, because seeing maths everywhere is an achievement in itself.

Many thanks to Terry Maguire and Ciarán O’Sullivan from Maths Eyes, who created this competition. They’ve done amazing work to inspire the younger generation.
