The 2025 Maths Eyes Poster Competition brought in over 600 entries this year, from 22 different counties and 59 different schools. We were delighted to welcome Hildegarde Naughton, the Minister of Education and Youth, to present the awards for the 37 winners of the 2025 competition.
With so many entries, it was difficult to pick the winners. The quality of the entries says a lot about how young people are seeing Maths in the world around them and sparking that curiousity, creativity, and critical thinking in the every day. Congratulations to everyone, winner or not, because seeing maths everywhere is an achievement in itself.
Many thanks to Terry Maguire and Ciarán O’Sullivan from Maths Eyes, who created this competition. They’ve done amazing work to inspire the younger generation.

✖️➗Today is International Day of Maths, also known as "Pi Day"! 🥧
March 14 is celebrated in many countries as Pi Day because that date is written as 3/14 in some countries and the mathematical constant Pi is approximately 3.14.
🖍 The IDM website resources page has a circular rosette pattern you can colour in. One poster can look really different depending on how you colour it, try it out and see what different shapes you can create!

❗The creative people at Maths Eyes have also developed a Tagline Competition for IDM. Using your Maths Eyes, pick one of four posters and explore the mathematical ideas it presents! There is a competition for Irish submissions as well. An bhfuil súile mata agat?
Submissions are open until 17 April.

Over the last six weeks, students have been taking their Maths skills to the next level in our Junior Maths Enrichment sessions in Waterford.
These sessions give students the opportunity to explore Maths in an environment outside the classroom. By learning through games and puzzles, students are building confidence and discovering that Maths can be FUN!
It’s been fantastic to see their confidence and enthusiasm grow each week. Thanks to Aoife Hennessy, a Maths and Computing Lecturer at South East Technological University, as well as the lecturers and volunteers who helped mentor the students each week.
Special thanks to Irish Mathematical Trust and Stripe.
