My past course participants and I still meet up whenever we can to visit interesting places, practise photography and, most importantly, have fun together.

We had the chance to photograph a Harris’s hawk in flight at Mayfield Birds of Prey. Willie gave us some food and the perfect opportunity to capture him as he flew towards us.

I was getting a little too close in an attempt to get the best view, and instead of landing on the outstretched arm of another person, he decided to land on my head! 😂

It was definitely funny… but also a little bit scary! 😅 What an experience!

The Mayfield Birds of Prey Portlaw # is a family-run centre in , led by qualified falconer Willie and his family. It offers visitors the chance to get up close to birds of prey while learning about falconry, wildlife and conservation.

And this photo shows one of their favourite snacks… a mouse!

Birds of prey eat mice because they are a natural source of protein and other nutrients, making them an important part of their diet in the wild.

I absolutely loved being able to photograph these amazing birds up close! 📸

One more photo from our trip to Kilkenny—this time, the beautiful Black Abbey!

Founded in 1225, the Black Abbey is one of the oldest Dominican foundations in Ireland and has an incredible history spanning more than 800 years. Its name comes from the black cloaks worn by the Dominican friars, who were known as the Blackfriars.

One of its most unique features is the magnificent Rosary Window, created in 1892 and considered the largest stained-glass window in Ireland.

If you’re visiting Kilkenny, the Black Abbey is definitely worth adding to your list—it’s such a unique piece of the city’s history 📸
