Waterford Academy of Music & Arts (WAMA)

The Waterford Academy of Music & Arts (WAMA) is a music school, a stage school, an art school and a theatre, all under the one roof!

The Waterford Academy of Music & Art (WAMA) is a stage school, music school, art school and theatre all under one roof! Located just behind the garage at Passage Cross on the Dunmore Road our 8,000 sq ft state-of-the-art presmises houses what is now the premiere music and arts school in the South-East. We provide tuition for students (both adults and children) with a range of goals and skill levels, form beginner right through to NFQ Level 5, preparing them for college or university. Stage School: Drama, Contemporary Dance, Tap, Introduction To Ballet, Lyrical Dance, Voice lessons, Choir, LAMDA Exams, Dance Finess for Adults Music School: Ukelele, Guitar, Piano, Bass, Drums, Voice Training, Violin/Fiddle, Cello, Mandolin, Banjo, Flute, BodhrΓ‘n, Rock Band, Drumming Band, Ukelele Orchestra, Guitar Ensemble, Choir Art School: General Art, Oils, Watercolours, Drawing, Craft Live Room Theatre: The Live Room Theatre, located in WAMA, serves as a theatrical space and a live music venue suitable for families. Under 18s are welcome, and no alcohol is served on the premises. The Live Room Theatre provides the students of WAMA with fantastic opportunities to see professional artists, both national and local, including access to live music acts that would otherwise typically perform in pubs and clubs. Not only is it a space for the pros to perform in, it's also a forum for our own students who can participate at open mics, teenage kicks, battle of the bands, recitals, plays, musicals and even play support to the professional acts. We make a student's stay with us be as comfortable, inclusive, productive, and enjoyable as possible. To achieve this we have professional premises, professionally developed syllabi's, and professional staff who have degrees, gigging experience, and teaching experience. In fact, every teacher here has a minimum of 5 years teaching experience, some with over 10 years experience. We also provide a range of performance opportunities for our students from concerts to open mics, from plays to full scale musicals, and from street theatre to outreach programmes.

🎨 πŸ–ΌοΈGreat turn out today for the opening of the WAMA art exhibition. The student artists did a fine job and were so proud to have their work exhibited. πŸ‘ They weren't the only ones though, their teacher Luke Carparelli was just as proud, as were their mamies and daddies. ❀️

It runs until June 27th in Studio 2 in WAMA if anyone wants to pop in to see what we're about.

Be sure to check out this weeks issue of The Munster Express before they're gone from the shops. There's a nice review in there of the recent WAMA Dance & Drama end-of-year variety show, written by Liam Murphy 🎭

Well done to the Tuesday violin students, and their teacher Cathy Desmond, along with some of our vocal students and their teacher Amanda Bible, on their end of season concert tonight in the Live Room Theatre in WAMA. It was a lovely evening and it had a real sense of occasion to it. It was great to see the improvement in the students and to see their hard work over the year pay off. Thanks also to our wonderful accompanist for the night, Killian Brown!

🎢 We enjoyed a great day out in Curraghmore today for the Waterford Country Fair. The few showers certainly didn't put a dampener on the wonderful performances by Anna Leahy, Christopher and Oliver Harris, Sean Reynolds, Conor Doyle, the WAMA Drumming Band, and our friends The Ukranian Emeralds. Thanks to the organisers for inviting us, and a special thanks to Sabina Higgins for taking the time to meet the students. 🎢

A big well done to the WAMA Dance & Drama super stars that took to the Theatre Royal stage last week for their end-of-year showcase! They danced, acted, and sang their hearts out. It was a great week and thanks so much to all that came and supported them. A big thanks also to their teachers (Dee Dempsey, Robyn Walsh, and Pat Grant) for putting the show together, and to the operators (Craig Cunningham - Lighting, Sean O'Sullivan - Sound, Pa Kerwick - Music), who kept things looking and sounding great. Well done also to the crew backstage (Gavin Nolan, Ben Nolan, Cain Byrne, Dylan Lawrence, Dean Power, Dean Hayes, Amber Searson, Ellen O'Callahan, Rose Walsh), who kept every show running smoothly. And of course to the parents and families that supported us at the shows and throughout the year. Thank you! πŸŽπŸŽΆπŸŽ€πŸ’ƒπŸ•Ί

Sean Reynolds and Anna Leahy, two talented singer songwriters from Waterford, will compete in Heat 2 of the Waterford Talent Show tonight in WAMA's Live Room Theatre. It's going to a great show with lots of variety, suitable for all the family. Doors open at 7:15pm.

Here's a note from Sienna, who will be performing this Friday night in Heat 2 of the Waterford Talent Show in WAMA's Live Room Theatre:

"My name is Sienna Reynolds, I'm 19 years old and I come from Carrick-On-Suir Co. Tipperary. I've loved singing for as long as I can remember, I'm in the process of learning acoustic guitar but for now I sing with backing tracks. When I was in primary school, people found out I could sing and was asking me to sing all the time, whether that be in the yard or in the school drama's. Last year was my biggest year for performances. I represented Waterford in the IYMAs National Day 2018, attended a public audition for 'Britain's Got Talent' and even got a main role in my local panto!. I feel like I've come a long way in terms of experience and stage presence since then, and I hope to wow the judges and the audience as best I can!"

The WAMA Ukulele Orchestra are a group of all-singing, all-strumming ukulele players that like to reinterpretate all genres of music in their own fun unique style! Don't miss them this Friday as they throw their hat in the ring at Heat 2 of the Waterford Talent Show in WAMA's Live Room Theatre.

Poi artist Eve Roberts will compete this coming Friday in Heat 2 of the Waterford Talent Show in WAMA's Live Room Theatre. (Poi involves swinging tethered weights through a variety of rhythmical and geometric patterns. Poi artists may also sing or dance while swinging their poi). If you would like to show your support for Eve and this art form, come along this Friday at 7:30pm to cheer her on and help her make the final in the Theatre Royal!

The WAMA drumming band will thunder on to the Live Room stage this coming Friday to compete in Heat 2 of the Waterford Talent Show. Friday is shaping up to be yet another awesome heat!! 😁

The Shed is a band consisting of Scott Murphy on Drums, Eoin Coughlan on bass, Jason Corcoran on Guitar and Luke Kelly on Guitar and vocals. The Shed, who believe it or not practice in a living room, take inspiration from bands such as the killers, Oasis, Catfish and the Bottlemen and u2 to create a familiar yet unique sound. Show your support for them at this Fridays Heat in WAMA's Live Room Theatre as they battle it out to earn a place in the final!

Mount Sion Choir was set up seven years ago as a place for students to express themselves musically. This choir believes in diversity and inclusion through music and they love to bring joy and hope to people. The young and the old (and everyone in between) enjoy the energy and enthusiasm this choir have for music. Enjoy them this Friday in WAMA's Live Room Theatre as they compete in Heat 2 of the Waterford Talent Show.

Tonight at 8:15! :-)

'Contraband' are a young group from Waterford ranging from age 14 to 17. Formed only a few months ago, although they have been friends for quiet some time including two brothers.
