What does meaningful use of digital technology look like when it is grounded in inclusion, accessibility, and respect for diverse ways of learning?
Dr. Catherine Kelly-Mason and Ms. Cathy Prembrokke presented at the SETU Centre for Academic Practice Community of Practice session, focused on the Certificate in Personal Development programme, where Catherine and Cathy shared how digital technologies support learners with intellectual disabilities in ways that are practical, ethical, and learner-centred.
Exploring real examples of using digital technologies to respond to varied learner needs, such as supporting comprehension, choice-making, routine-building, and creative expression while maintaining clarity, simplicity, and dignity.
The session also reflected on where digital tools genuinely enhance learning and where low-tech or non-digital approaches remain the better choice.
