Laois Libraries are delighted to announce the return of the Summer Stars Reading Challenge for 2026!

Drop into your local library over the summer months and sign up for free.

Children who register will receive a drawstring bag, activity book and a book mark.

There are lots of free events and activities taking place throughout June, July and August as part of the Summer Stars programme of events.

NCSE Parent Notification Process

Primary and Post Primary School Places for Special Class and Special School Placements – September 2027

The National Council for Special Education (NCSE) is asking parents and guardians to notify them if their child will require a special class or special school place for the 2027/2028 school year.
This information helps the NCSE plan for the number and location of special education places needed across the country.

👤 Who is this for?
This process is for parents and guardians of children who may require a:
• Special Class placement, or
• Special School placement
for September 2027.

📅 Important Dates
1 September 2026
• Notify the NCSE that your child requires a special class or special school place.
15 September 2026
• Submit any supporting documentation.
• If you are waiting for reports, do not delay notifying the NCSE. Documentation can be provided as soon as it becomes available.

✅ What happens next?
If your child meets the eligibility criteria, the NCSE will issue a Letter of Eligibility.
This letter:
• Confirms your child's eligibility for a specialist placement.
• Should be included with applications to special classes or special schools.
• Is valid for one school year only.

Complete the Parent Notification through the NCSE Parents Notify Portal:

📌 Please remember
• Completing the Parent Notification does not guarantee a school place.
• Parents should still apply directly to schools in line with each school's Admissions Policy.
• Early notification helps the NCSE plan the right number of places and supports for children who need them.

If you believe your child may require a special class or special school placement in September 2027, please notify the NCSE as early as possible and before the deadlines above.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our summer raffle of the year.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the incredible staff of St. Colman's from Esther, Gerry, Niamh, Byran, Sharon, all of the teachers, SNAs, SET team, bus drivers and escorts, cleaners and everyone who works so hard behind the scenes every day. Your dedication and support throughout the year never goes unnoticed. Thank you for everything you do.

A massive thank you also to our wonderful parents, local businesses, community members, and everyone who donated prizes, bought raffle tickets and supported our fundraising efforts this year. It really does take a village and we are so grateful for the support we always receive.

A special thank you to Stradbally Town AFC for joining us this morning to help draw the winning tickets.
