Bouncing castles at school!!!!!!

What a day we had in our Sunflower Room along with our two Junior Infants and First Class. . . . . The children got to visit St Patrick’s Primary and enjoy obstacle courses and slides on bouncing castles. . . Life does not get much better when you are a child!!!!
A HUGE thank you to St Patrick’s for sharing and involving us in such a fun filled initiative. . . Little excursions similar to this will hopefully become common place as the three schools amalgamate in September!

What a memorable occasion!

So today 16 girls from our weekly Athletics Club represented us in Dangan at the annual athletic county school championship . . And they ALL should be soo proud of their achievements.

We had girls enter u13, u11 and u9 sprints, long distances and relays. They all were exceptionally determined and enthusiastic and it was great to see the loyal team spirit between them as they all supported each other from the side line.

The ‘icing on the cake’ was winning a gold medal. A fourth class student won GOLD for the second year in a row in the u11 sprint.

A huge thank you has to be given to Miss E Burke and Mr Dolly for their commitment to these girls as they coached them each Thursday after school during the school year. Their hard work certainly paid off and what a fabulous day to conclude the athletic season.

Our Sports Day had been rescheduled on numerous occasions this year because of our ‘fabulous’ Irish weather but on Friday last we grabbed the few rays of sunshine and ran all the races.
What a memorable day for our children as not only were out in the fresh air getting lots of exercise with their peers but they also got to experience, first hand, the STRONG link that exists between home and school here in Scoil Mhuire.
Many, many parents attended the day and supported their children - some mammies and daddies even took part in their own races.
Great fun was had and many happy memories were created-a HUGE thank you to Mrs Imelda O Brien for co ordinating it all.

What a memorable day for our Ladybird and Bumble Bee Rooms-The Class of 2019.

The majority of these amazing children graduated today after spending two years in our EIC preschool and they all certainly celebrated in style.

Their parents, siblings, grannies, child minders and all the dedicated Scoil Mhuire staff had a thoroughly enjoyable morning in Go Bananas where the children themselves had enormous fun exploring the various slides, bouncing castles and ball pools. They had seriously tasty food and they all left with framed photographs, certificates and helium balloons.

This was such a memorable occasion for all involved and highlighted the successful outcomes that can be achieved when appropriate early interventions are put in place and the teams surrounding these children all work together

The boys and girl, their families and the committed staff of Scoil Mhuire should stand proud tonight.

So today we welcomed ‘Music Generation’ to our school.

Music Generation is a completely child-centred performance music education approach for Junior Infants – 6th Class which engages children in active music-making in primary school settings through singing activities, games, rhythm, solfége and improvisation encouraging independent music making from an early age.

The children in Miss Burke’s Junior Infants certainly appear like they enjoyed their first ‘taster’ session and other classes in the school will look forward to engaging with this great initiative on a weekly basis commencing in September.

Our Sixth Class girls have been using one of their many skills-knitting- to knit hats for the top of ‘Innocent Smoothie’ bottles.
For every bottle sold ‘Innocent’ will donate 30 c to Age Action- a charity that helps many older people throughout Ireland in various different ways.
Knitting has been proven as a life skill which reduces stress and anxiety for all individuals as it keeps the mind focused and calm.
This fantastic initiative was a win win for all involved- the mental well being of our girls was certainly enhanced and we also helped the elderly in our local community.
The girls have been working on this project for the past few months and last week they posted 126 hats to ‘Innocent’ headquarters.
Well done to Miss Gaughan for engaging the girls in this exceptionally worthwhile project and to the girls themselves . . . Some of the hats were very creative!

We are delighted Brendan Smith is able to find the time to speak to us here in Tuam on the potential dangers for our children using the internet.
Brendan Smith is the Education and Public Engagement Officer of the Insight Centre for Data Analytics at National University of Ireland Galway.
Amongst MANY of Brendan’s projects he is co-founder and curator of the Computer and Communication Museum of Ireland and co-founder of the volunteer Coderdojo computer coding club in Galway City.
Brendan is exceptionally knowledgeable in the area of internet safety. . . .a must for every parent to hear speak! Hence we here in Scoil Mhuire are encouraging one parent from each of our families to attend.

What a miserable day, weather wise but here in Scoil Mhuire we did not let it dampen our spirits as ‘Active Week’ continued with dance classes in our hall.
Dance teacher, Leighton Morrison, gave each class a real great work out with various dance routines.
The coordination and concentration to follow the dance moves took huge determination but ALL the children rose to the challenge and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Junior Sports Day is planned for tomorrow, weather permitting so bed early tonight!

Our ‘Active Week’ was launched by our ‘Active Agents’ on our Student Council yesterday at an exceptionally energetic assembly which detailed the events of the week.
The daily activities include a ‘Mile with a Smile’ and ’Drop Everything and Dance’.
This week also awards the children the opportunity to experience the fantastic community spirit which exists within this town.
Yesterday Tuam Athletics Club provided running mechanics workshops and today Tuam Rugby Club created both practice drills to introduce skill and also provided an opportunity for matches.
Each club offered each child in Scoil Mhuire an opportunity to experience a taste of what their clubs offer in their local community and hopefully this will encourage each child to attend such after school activities.
We would like to sincerely thank both clubs for their efforts and continued support.
We look forward to the coming ‘Active’ days which include dance workshops and sports days and a huge thank you to Mrs O Brien for coordinating the entire week.

What fabulous weather we were blessed with today as our Second and Sixth Classes were out and about in our local community.
Second Class celebrated the fact that they received their sacrament of Holy Communion on Saturday by visiting local pizzeria Lumberjacks and then had some ‘fun in the sun’ in the playground. A HUGE thank you to the staff of Lumberjacks for welcoming the girls and teachers so warmly and for being exceptionally generous with the food.
Our Sixth Class Class girls began their ‘Transition Programme’ in the Youth Work Ireland Cafe on Dublin Rd. This Programme facilitated by Karen and her team prepares the girls for the next chapter of their educational journey as they transition into secondary school. This visit to the fabulous facility was the first of four sessions and the girls certainly looked like they were enjoying themselves. Again thank you to the Youth Work Ireland team.

Here in Scoil Mhuire we deem it important that we celebrate the successes of all our students and their achievements.
Hence yesterday we held a special ‘Award Ceremony’ where we honored creative and imaginative work completed in our annual Write a Book project, commitment and dedication through participation in the National Children’s Choir and innovating and encouraging work through the creation of projects on Greece illustrated through ‘I Movies’.
All of the children which were acknowledged look exceptionally pleased with themselves and it was wonderful to see the whole school community supporting them.
A huge thank you to Mrs Lydon, Mrs Deignan, Miss Gaughan, Miss Fitzpatrick and Mrs Hurson for enabling and facilitating all of these fabulous initiatives to occur.
The students of Scoil Mhuire are fortunate to have such dedicated teachers who ensure they are receiving a holistic education.👍👍
