The Colour Monster – Emotions Week

This week in Toddlers, we have been exploring The Colour Monster and all the different emotions we can feel. Every emotion is important and valid, but it is important to learn how to recognise and understand them so that we can manage them.

Monday: We painted our own Colour Monsters, each one representing a different emotion, and then gave them a name.

Tuesday: Inspired by Anna Llenas’ beautifully illustrated book, we discovered the jars where our emotions are kept, so we created our very own emotion jars.

Wednesday: Through hands-on exploration and sensory play, using paint and bubble wrap, we created our own monsters of emotions.

Thursday: Using the artistic technique of collage, we created a colourful mural by sticking pieces of paper in the colours associated with different emotions.

Friday: We carried out a visual experiment. By placing pom-poms in water, we watched as the water changed colour. This helped us understand that our emotions can affect our bodies, but that with practice, we can learn to regulate and manage them.

Have a lovely weekend!

Junior Preschool – This Week's Theme: Reptiles 🦎🐍

Tuesday
The children made paper plate snake crafts. They had lots of fun decorating their snakes while developing their creativity and fine motor skills.

Activity: Reptile Masks
The children chose from three different reptile masks: a crocodile, chameleon, or Komodo dragon. First, they coloured their chosen mask using crayons. Next, they carefully cut it out before sticking a craft stick onto the back to complete their reptile mask, ready for role play and imaginative fun. This activity encouraged creativity, scissor skills, and hand-eye coordination.

Wednesday
The children created Q-tip lizard paintings. They enjoyed using cotton buds to paint colourful patterns on their lizards while strengthening their fine motor skills and exploring different painting techniques.

Thursday
The children enjoyed colouring, carefully cutting out their pieces with scissors, and building their crocodiles. This activity supported their creativity, fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and scissor control while encouraging them to follow instructions and take pride in their finished creations. 🐊

Friday
The children completed a reptile counting worksheet, helping to develop their early maths and number recognition skills.

To finish off our reptile-themed week, we enjoyed a special treat! The children worked together to crush Oreo biscuits to make the "soil," which they placed into the bottom of their tubs. They then added mint ice cream to represent the "grass" and finished it off with a jelly snake slithering through the top, creating a delicious "Snake in the Grass" treat. 🐍🍨

Have a good weekend

This week in Wobbler 2 was very colourful because the theme of our curriculum was flowers. We started with a tuff tray filled with dry sensory materials. It was a great opportunity to reinforce vocabulary related to colours. This week, we also began practising naming basic colours in Irish! The next day, we painted flowers using stamps made from cut peppers and carved potatoes. Our favourite activity this week was flowery oobleck – our sensory table was filled with colourful non-Newtonian fluid, flowers, and petals. The children could dip their hands (and not only hands...πŸ˜‰), explore the properties of the gooey substance, pick flowers, and practice their knowledge about colours.
We also enjoyed making 3D flowers from pieces of crepe paper and playdough. They turned out amazing. We finished the week by creating a nature collageβ€”the children stuck pressed flowers, leaves, and grass onto transparent sheets. Well done, everyone🌺
