As they say all good things must come to an end. After 26 wonderful years teaching at Loughfouder NS, 10 of which I spent as principal and a teaching career spanning 39 years, it was time for me to say a fond farewell to everyone at the school this week. I look back on my time there with great memories, immense joy and pride on a job well done. It has been so rewarding seeing the pupils learning and growing each year and seeing the school going from strength to strength. Thanks to the amazing staff, Miss O'Shea, Josephine Murphy, Noreen Daly and Miss O Neill who organized a lovely send off for me. There was a retirement mass celebrated by Fr. Gerard O Leary with pupils and staff. Then in the afternoon there was a lovely gathering of family, friends, parents, past parents and pupils, local teachers, retired teachers and members of the community. There was fabulous food donated by parents, a few speeches, a slideshow of memorable moments from my career and finally some musical entertainment from Denis & Byron Collins, Nicky and Ann McAuliffe and Emer & Liam O Shea. Thanks to everyone who made it all possible especially to Linda, Noreen and Noel who captured some very special moments on camera. As I hand on the baton to Miss O Shea, the new principal, I wish her the very best of luck. She is a dedicated and talented teacher and I know that the school is in safe hands with her. I have really enjoyed keeping you all up to date on what was happening in Loughfouder NS on this page over the past ten years and I look forward to following its activities and achievements from the sideline long into the future! Míle Buíochas go léir!! Liz Lane 💕💕

As we get ready for the summer holidays on Friday it was time to start the celebrations today. Mrs. Lane treated the pupils to a few well deserved treats for all their hard work and positivity all year. She also presented them with two new World Cup soccer balls as all the others are well worn out after a busy year of sport!

Thanks to Áine Reidy from Abbeyfeale Rugby Club for coming to the school for the past few weeks to give the children some tag-rugby sessions. This is made possible by funding from the New York City Rugby Supporters Club who have a fundraiser every year so that coaches can visit schools and pass on the skills of rugby. What a great initiative! Míle Buíochas!!

Today was a special day in Loughfouder as we celebrated our 6th class pupils, Meave, Donnacha and Daniel on their Graduation Day. Once again the weather obliged with some lovely sunshine as we welcome the parents, grandparents and relations to the event. Fr. Gerard O’ Leary officiated at the Graduation Service. We were very proud of all the pupils as they sang, played music, brought up symbols of school life and did readings. Afterwards there were refreshments for everyone. Thanks to Miss O Shea for organizing the lovely service and to Josephine and Noreen for helping with catering. We hope the 6th class enjoyed the day and we wish them the very best of luck in their secondary education! 💕💕💕

It was sunshine all the way for our cycle on the Greenway today. This was our second cycling trip this year. There was a lot of focus on cycling at the school all year as we know how important it is for keeping fit and for positive mental health and best of all it’s free. With all the Greenways opening up around the country there are plenty of places for families to go. Today the senior classes started at Abbeyfeale and cycled to Barnagh. The junior classes started at Devon Road and finished in Barnagh also. There were lots of pit stops along the way for food and drinks. At Barnagh Hub everyone enjoyed a few treats and a session in the playground. Thanks to the staff at Barnagh Hub for their warm welcome. Thanks to the parents for organizing lifts. It would not have been possible without you! Finally thanks to our wonderful staff for looking after the pupils so well on the Greenway. Ní neart go cur le chéile! 🚴🏼‍♀️🚴🏽‍♂️🌈☀️

Best of luck to all of our past-pupils starting the Junior or Leaving Cert tomorrow.

The annual sports day is always an exciting day where school bags are left at home and it’s fun from start to finish. Today was no different. There were all sorts of activities … hockey, table tennis, tag-rugby, javelin, wellie throw as well as obstacle courses, basketball shots and penalty shootouts. Of course there were lots of races including the all time favourites.. egg and spoon and sack race. A great day was had by all and there should be no problem sleeping tonight..for the teachers anyway!! Have a lovely bank holiday weekend everyone. 💕💕
