Each year, the Irish Second-Level Studentsโ€™ Union (ISSU), Institute of Guidance Counsellors (IGC), National Parents Council (NPC) and Department of Education and Youth work together to provide the National Parents and Students Leaving Certificate Helpline.

The Helpline opens on Leaving Certificate Results Day โ€“ Friday 21 August and is staffed by professional and experienced guidance counsellors.

Students and parents can get practical information and support on:

๐Ÿ“‹ Leaving Certificate results
๐ŸŽ“ CAO choices
๐Ÿ“„ Viewing examination scripts
๐Ÿ“ Appeals
๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Apprenticeships
๐Ÿ“š Further Education and Training (FET)
๐Ÿซ Tertiary programmes
โžก๏ธ Other pathways and next steps

๐Ÿ“ฑ The text service is also continuing for 2026, alongside the traditional phone service. It gives students and parents another way to get support, particularly for anyone who feels more comfortable starting the conversation by text.

Whether youโ€™re waiting for your own results or supporting a young person through Results Week, you donโ€™t need to have every answer in advance. If something is unclear, the Helpline is there to help you understand the options and work out what comes next.

For many children and teenagers, gaming is a huge part of their social life.

They play with friends, talk while they game and meet other players online.

But do you know who your child is actually talking to?

Not everyone they meet through a game will necessarily be someone they know in real life โ€” and people online are not always who they say they are.

That doesnโ€™t mean parents need to panic or stand over every game.

It does mean keeping the conversation open.

๐ŸŽง Ask who they regularly play and chat with
๐Ÿ‘ค Find out whether they talk to people they donโ€™t know offline
๐Ÿšฉ Be alert if someone asks them to move the conversation to another app or keep something secret
๐Ÿ”’ Check privacy, messaging and friend settings together
๐Ÿ’ฌ Most importantly, make sure your child knows they can tell you if something feels wrong โ€” without automatically losing access to their game or getting into trouble

That last point matters.

If a young person thinks telling a parent will immediately mean losing their phone, console or game, they may be less likely to speak up when something uncomfortable happens.

A calm conversation now can make it much easier for them to come to you later.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Do you know who your child regularly games with online?

And what rules or conversations work well in your family?
