We’ve had a few DMs from parents wondering whether they’ve missed the boat for this term, so we thought we’d clear it up: you haven’t.

We’re 2 weeks in and still welcoming new students. Because every lesson is one-to-one, there’s no group pace to catch up with. Your child starts exactly where they are, and we build from there. New joiner fees are prorated to the number of lessons left.

The school is open 3:30pm to 9:00pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and Wednesday is the day we’ve most room. 15+ instruments to choose from, from piano and guitar to fiddle, harp, drums and voice. Whether your child wants to work towards graded exams or just play for the joy of it, they’ll be well looked after.

Swipe through for the questions we’ve been asked most this week. Anything we haven’t covered, our DMs are open 🎵

HINT:
This jig started as a joke between neighbours in rural Cork over 130 years ago. It’s been sung from here to Boston ever since.

The man it was written about was described as a popular sportsman.

In reality? He was none of those things. And he loved it anyway.

So why was the song written? Because the farmer who hired him couldn’t afford to pay him. So he wrote a ballad about him instead. Immortalised in song rather than paid in coin. And the labourer was genuinely delighted with the arrangement.

The songwriter was a local farmer with a habit of putting his neighbours into verses. He lampooned half the parish. This one just happened to stick.

The man the song was written about never married, never owned land, and slept in barns. But thanks to one tune, his name has outlived everyone else in the village.

That’s what learning an instrument within a community like Newport offers.

It’s not just notes on a page. It’s living, breathing culture being handed down.

Music shapes who your child becomes, not just what they can play.

That’s what we want for every child who walks through our door.

To pass on not just the ability to play an instrument, but the confidence, patience and joy that comes with it.

After-school activities don’t get any better than music - when it comes to instilling confidence, independence as well as cognitive skill development.

Our one-to-one lessons focus on pacing. It’s not about certificates, grades or accolades (though there’s that too, if they’d like).

It’s about their personal growth. As teachers we’ve all experienced it and now our purpose is to pass it on.

Not just the ability to play an instrument, but the confidence, patience and joy that comes with it.

We’d love to welcome you into our Newort music school - at the link in our bio.

Here every lesson is built around your child. Not a curriculum. Not a group average. Just them.

At McAuliffe School of Music, there’s no rushing to keep up, no holding back to let others catch in.

Challenges become something to work through together, not something to feel behind on.

Joy and progress is celebrated, not diluted.
Our students feel seen because someone is paying close attention to every detail of their development.

Just 30 minutes of someone’s full attention on your child, every single week.

The thing most parents notice first? It’s the confidence.

“But I really struggle to get my kid to practise.” We hear this one all the time. 🎵

Here’s the thing: practice doesn’t need to mean long, stressful sessions.
Each only 30 minute lesson is only 0.3% of your child’s week.

Even 5-10 minutes of focused practice a few times a week can make a huge impact on your child’s progress and confidence.

FAQs:

Q: What age should they start?
A: Earliest we’d suggest is from 5 years of age, depending on the instrument - some require a slightly more mature student. DM us and we can advise the appropriate age for your preferred instrument (or the best instruments for your child’s current age).

Q: What instrument for young beginners?
A: Piano. It teaches all the fundamentals, notation and rhythm.

Q: Are any instruments easy?
A: No such thing! They all have their challenges. The key is patience, practice and perseverance.

Q: Do you need to own an instrument?
A: Yes, ideally. But we’re always happy to help source one. Our friends at Steamboat do great rentals and sometimes fellow students may be looking to sell theirs after acquiring a new one.

If you have a question we haven’t covered, our DMs are always open.

Tag a parent who deserves 30 minutes of peace every week 😌.

Their child makes music. They make a cuppa. Everybody wins.

Ronan has made fantastic progress on the Piano since starting lessons in September through his focus, dedication, and positive attitude towards learning. 🎹

It’s been wonderful to watch his confidence and musical ability grow in such a short time, showing what can be achieved with steady practice and encouragement.

As another great year of music comes to an end, we’re now welcoming new students for the new term in September.

Whether your child is starting for the very first time or looking to build their confidence in music, we’d love to help them begin their musical journey.

For our young musicians, learning music is about so much more than notes — it builds confidence, creativity, discipline, and friendships that can last a lifetime.
