We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of the 44 students who sat the Leaving Certificate examinations this year at The Abbey School. While examination results are important, our primary objective has always been to ensure that every student leaves our school with a positive pathway towards further education, apprenticeships, training, or employment. We are therefore especially proud that all of our students are now in a position to progress confidently to the next stage of their journey.
Alongside this success in progression, there was much academic excellence to celebrate. Approximately one in five students achieved over 500 CAO points, while almost 40% achieved in excess of 420 points, reflecting the hard work, commitment, and resilience shown by our students throughout their senior cycle years.
We also witnessed exceptional performances across a number of subjects. In the sciences, 25% of students achieved a H1 in Biology, while an outstanding 30% achieved a H1 in Chemistry. In Higher Level Mathematics, 25% of students achieved a H1, and 50% of those taking the subject attained over 70% in their examination. Design and Communication Graphics was another area of significant success, with 60% of students achieving a H3 grade or higher.
Today, we also celebrate a particularly special group of students. Three years ago, eight students joined The Abbey School from Ukraine during Transition Year. Having embraced the challenges of a new country, language, and education system, all eight successfully completed their Leaving Certificate examinations this summer. We are incredibly proud of their achievements, determination, and the contribution they have made to our school community.
These results are a testament not only to the dedication of our students but also to the unwavering support of their families and the commitment of our staff, who work tirelessly to help every young person reach their potential.
As a school, we take great pride in celebrating excellence, but even more importantly, we celebrate the fact that every one of our students now has a pathway forward and opportunities to pursue their ambitions.
