Sixth year students attended the Cork Careers Fair, run through the Cork IGC branch on Tuesday 12th October. This gave all those attending a good opportunity to connect with colleges, universities and further education and training courses to help guide them on their pathways in the years to come.

Sorry to hear about the passing of Joe Foyle recently. Joe was very involved in past pupil reunions over the years. He wrote a piece for our Bicentennial celebration program in 2016 when our past pupils hurled against the Tipperary senior hurlers. Joe won two Dean Ryan medals in 1951 & 1952 and a Harty Cup in 1951. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dhilís.

Hard luck to our U19 Basketball team who lost out to Mercy Mounthawk in the last 16 of the Cup yesterday. The boys showed great character and determination against one of the top teams in the country. While the result didn’t go our way, it was a valuable opportunity to test ourselves against opposition of this standard. Plenty to take from the experience as we turn our attention back to the Midlands League. Well done boys! 👏

Maths Week 2026

Maths week was filled with exciting activities, challenges and opportunities for students to explore the fun and practical side of mathematics!

Our 1A Maths class took part in a probability and risk experiment, where students had to decide whether to roll again or take a risk. They discovered that the more you play, the greater the risks can become!

Our LCA students organised a fun Guesstimation Competition for both teachers and students, as well as creating this year's fantastic Maths Week display, the GeomeTREE! 

Second Year and TY students participated in this year's Maggie Gough Competition, putting their mathematical knowledge, logical thinking and problem-solving skills to the test.

Meanwhile, Second Year Religion classes explored the fascinating world of numerology in different religions, researching the connections between religion and mathematics.

To round off the week, our TY students were invited to MIC Thurles on Friday for Diver Maths, an exciting Magic Maths workshop. The experience was thoroughly enjoyed by all!

Well done to everyone who participated and helped make Maths Week 2026 such a success!

1st year Corn Uí Chatháin final takes place next Tuesday at 2.00 in Semple Stadium against Nenagh CBS. 60 boys have played 1st year hurling for the school over the last few weeks.

⚽ U17 Soccer | Munster Junior Cup ⚽

Our U17 soccer panel got off to a winning start on Thursday in the Munster Junior Cup! 💪

Thurles CBS travelled to Dixie Currivan Park, Palmer’s Hill, to take on Cashel CS in the first round. In a closely contested game between two attack-minded sides, Thurles CBS came away with an impressive 4-2 victory to book their place in the next round! 👏

🔥 Johnny Whelan (1) and Cathal Lillis (3) were a constant threat up front, finding the net four times between them to secure the win for Thurles CBS.

A big thank you to Cashel Town FC for the use of their excellent facilities and to Cashel CS for a competitive and sporting game.

Well done to all involved! On to the next round! ⚽

First Year Hurlers Set for County Final

This week marked the final round of matches in the First Year County Hurling Competition, and what a milestone it has been for our young hurlers. We are incredibly proud to have had 60 first-year students representing the school across three teams throughout the competition.

Since arriving in the school, these boys have shown tremendous dedication, commitment and enthusiasm for hurling. Their hard work at training sessions and their willingness to represent the school has been fantastic to see, and they have been excellent ambassadors both on and off the field.

A huge congratulations to all of the players for the effort they have put in over the past number of months. Regardless of results, their development as hurlers and teammates has been a credit to themselves, their families, and their coaches.

The excitement continues as we now look ahead to the First Year County Final in Semple Stadium on Tuesday, 20th October at 2pm, where we will take on Nenagh CBS. We wish the panel the very best of luck as they prepare for this special occasion and hope to see plenty of support on the day.

We were very sorry to hear about the passing of former colleague Seamus Collings. Our sympathies to his partner Annette, daughter Yvonne, son David, and family. Seamus attended Scoil Ailbhe and the CBS as a student. In 1971, Seamus returned to the school to teach Woodwork and Technical Graphics. He had a happy return to the school as a teacher as Tipperary had just won the All-Ireland and the school marked the achievement by having a half day. Seamus retired in 2006 from teaching but continued to keep in contact with colleagues and to follow our schools hurling teams, particularly the Harty team. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
