Thomastown Community Kindergarten The Thomastown Kindergarten is situated in a rural setting in close vicinity to Kilkenny City and is influenced by the Steiner Waldorf approach.

We offer a rich foundation for the 2 1/2 to 5 year old child. Our main emphasis lies in creating a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere in which the child is allowed to learn by example rather than direct instructions. Our activities reflect the concerns, interests and developmental stages of the child and our environment is designed to foster personal and social learning, giving a foundation for later formal learning. Each day is marked with a different activity integrated into the seasons, days and weeks such as: Watercolour painting, bread baking, bees-wax modelling, art and craft, gardening, music, ring-time, puppet show, creative play and lots of outdoors play. The toys and materials used are natural, stimulating to touch and imagination. Our snack-times are prepared and shared together using organic ingredients wherever possible and inviting social conversation. In recognition of its vital role in early childhood education, we offer the children time to play and we hope to offer an education that prepares the child "for life from life". A lovely morning was had yesterday as we got together for our breakfast morning ☀️
A social gathering for staff, parents and children to come together and get to know one another better, including our two new volunteers who were busy baking goodies from their home countries, Laia made a Pancake Cake from Sweden and Frida made a Bee Sting Cake from Germany. Thanks to all the parents for coming and bringing delicious goodies of their own 🤗.

Another busy week as we continue to settle into our routines, getting to know the children so we can start planning activities around their interests. ✨
This week included not just a visit from our local library but a birthday, lots of water play, painting, preparing veggies for our soup,milling some grain, baking apple muffins from a lovely gift of apples & play dough made from lavender🪻.
I wonder what fun next week will bring 🌻

Today we had a visit from two lovely ladies from our local library, they came to read the children some stories and tell us about our fab new library in Thomastown. 📚

The children couldn't believe it when this stunning demoiselle landed in the Kindie garden today!
They ran to get our dragonfly swatch book and they identified it as a male 'Beautiful Demoiselle'.(I think they are right!)

Our European Solidarity Corps volunteers Anna Maria and Selma took on a project to make a bug house for the kindergarten to follow the children's huge interest in bugs.🕷️

This week we marked the end of our school year, not with "graduations" but with fun days filled with games, treats and laughter.
The children from the morning group did a special puppet show, created by them as they helped to write the story, they took time and care to make their very own characters for the show.
We say goodbye to many as they move schools on their next adventures, while some we will see over the coming weeks at our camps and others will take a break until we see each other again for our new school year. ❤️
