Christmas Cookery Demonstration!
Join us for this very exciting fundraising event for the school taking place on Friday, 21st November in The Abbey Tavern in Howth. Our celebrity chef is Rachel Allen, who will be cooking up a Christmas themed menu. There will also be a fantastic raffle on the night.

SCHOOL SPORTS SPOTLIGHT - GOLF

Golf offers both our junior and senior students a unique opportunity to represent the school as part of a team in what is traditionally known as an individual sport. Each year we enter teams into the East Leinster and All - Ireland schools competitions.

Many of our students play regularly in the nearby local clubs with a number of past pupils have gone on the represent their respective college teams both at home here in Ireland and abroad in the USA. Max Kennedy (Class of 2020) attended the University of Louisville on a golf scholarship and is currently playing on the European Challenge Tour.

Current Transition Year students Michael Patton and Ronan O' Donovan both finished in the top 3 of the East Leinster Junior Golf Championship last year and qualified for the All Ireland Championships that took place in May 2025.

SCHOOL SPORTS SPOTLIGHT - RACKET SPORTS

St. Fintan’s HS enters teams across a number of different racket sports. We enter teams at u14, u16 and u19 level in Tennis, Squash and Badminton at Dublin, Leinster and All Ireland level.

We are fortunate to have a number of dedicated teachers involved in each of these sports and are very lucky to have access to the amazing facilities at Sutton Lawn Tennis Club. While being traditional known as individual sports there is a strong emphasis placed on both teamwork and togetherness across all racket sports.

A number of past pupils including Sam Buckley (Squash) Conor Moran (Squash), Ryan Farrell (Table Tennis) and Eoin Quinn (Tennis) have all played on the international stage. There are also a sizeable number of current students playing at the highest level in Ireland including Ciaran McKenna (Tennis), Theo O' Connell (Badminton) & Christian Dromgoole (Squash).

Last year we excelled in a number of these sports capturing the U16 Dublin, Leinster and All Ireland Badminton titles and made Division 2 finals in both Junior and Senior Tennis.

SCHOOL SPORT SPOTLIGHT - ATHLETICS

The sport of athletics has always been very important in St.Fintan’s. Backboned by the coaching provided by Paddy Noonan and Kay Bannon (Raheny Shamrocks), the school has always had a large number of students participating and succeeding in various Athletics events in both cross country and track & field.

Athletics sessions take place on Tuesdays after school and our students compete in Dublin, Leinster and All-Ireland events each year. Our coaches take a keen interest in developing each student and helping them reach their potential. Many of our new students who have never taken part in athletics, come to the school and under the guidance of Paddy and Kay, fall in love with the sport and achieve amazing results. A number of current students are excelling in a range of underage Irish athletics. Des O' Neill (6th Year) is the current Irish 400m hurdle champion.

In 2012, one of our students, Cillian Kirwan had the honor of carrying the Olympic torch on one of the parts of the route through Dublin in preparation for the London Olympics. Former students Mark Smyth (100/200m), Sean O’Driscoll (100/200m) and Michael Farrelly (100/200m) have all competed for Ireland at major championships and continue to achieve at the top level.

SPONSORED WALK/RUN - THANK YOU
The PE Department would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone involved in ensuring the St. Fintan's Annual School Walk/Run was a success this year. It was great to see over 600 students travelling from the school to the Tree of Life and back today, with approximately 300 students choosing to run the route.

This is a very important event for the school as it is our only means of raising much needed funds for PE equipment and extra-curricular sports in the school. The GoFundMe link below will stay open over the weekend for anyone who still wishes to donate.

TODAY IS THE DAY - ANNUAL SCHOOL SPONSORED WALK/RUN

SCHOOL SPORT SPOTLIGHT

Basketball is a sport which has enjoyed huge success in the last 30 years winning 20 All-Ireland A titles in both league and cup, ranging from 1st year to senior, since 1995.

St. Fintan’s basketball program has seen a rejuvenation in the last number of years with the 2024 senior team progressing to the All-Ireland league quarter-final for the first time since 2015 and the junior team reaching the last eight of the All-Ireland Cup at the beginning of 2025. This revival is a result of the huge effort and support of the teachers and coaches in the school.

The introduction of the annual St. Fintan’s All-Star Basketball Game in 2023 has been a huge success and perfect addition to the legacy of one of St. Fintans most popular and successful sports.

SCHOOL SPORT SPOTLIGHT - SOCCER

There is a huge passion for the sport of Soccer in St.Fintan’s. Lunch time each day sees large numbers of students engaging in the game both on the school field and also on the newly renovated state of the art astro turf pitch.

We field teams at all levels at top level in the Dublin & Leinster schoolboy leagues and our students have access to lots of opportunities to play the game, train together and develop as players. We have a tradition of competing well in all competitions and have achieved a high level of success in recent years reaching a number of Dublin finals.

Some of our well known former students who are excelling in soccer include Dan Ring (Shelbourne FC), Jamie Mullins (Wycombe Wanderers, UK), Jack Moylan (Lincoln City, UK) and William Hondermarck (Bromley FC, UK). These players are role models for our current students and show them the value of hard work and dedication in sport. There
