Behind the Scenes: School of Drama

Behind the Scenes: School of Drama BUILDING CONFIDENCE IN PEOPLE OF ALL AGES Our objective is the development of the child through drama.

Established in 1990 in Stillorgan by Emer Halpenny, the school has grown considerably since, with over 1,000 graduates. Primarily set up to help children build confidence and channel their creative talents through drama and the theatre, many students have progressed into the dramatic arts, and some have made names for themselves in the world of film and television. We want our students simply to understand that they are creative geniuses and that we want them to have fun! We run classes throughout the school year and Halloween and Summer camps.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ NOW ENROLLING! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Formerly known as our special needs group, it occurred to me that I’ve never had to do anything “special” here. In fact the people in this group have been exceptional, rather than ‘special’ and so, as we head into new spaces and expand the class offering to a full 💃🏼MUSICAL THEATRE 🕺🏻experience, it seemed only right to rechristen it:

Aisling, Ciara and Lachlan here with an important update. During the last few months, we have been thinking about the future of the school and have come to a few difficult decisions. It is with a heavy heart that we have decided to close the school.

The last twelve months have been a whirlwind for everyone and during that time the three of us have been waiting with anticipation, hoping that we would be able to return to classes. We thought long and hard about the future of the school and whether it would be possible to keep it alive in some form. We are, however, all individually progressing in our career paths, and it saddens us that we will no longer to be able to continue with the school.

We want to say a huge thank you from the three of us. This school has meant a lot to us and has been one of the most fulfilling and enjoyable experiences. We are immensely proud of the work we did during our time under Behind the Scenes and we hope all of our students are as well. Every single one of our students made our jobs an absolute joy and we want to express our gratitude for their enthusiasm and your support.

Here at Behind the Scenes: School of Drama we have always striven to ensure that our classes are a place of acceptance; a place where each and every one of our students has a voice. We stand firmly against any form of discrimination and we will always ensure that our school is a welcoming and safe place for anyone.

Hi Everyone, we hope you are all well during this time.
As the lockdown period has extended beyond our term time, it is unlikely that classes will be resumed until September. Because of this, we will be rescheduling all of our missed classes until then.
We were hoping that we'd be able to see everyone before the Summer and get back into all of the good work that the students had been doing prior to the lockdown however we understand the importance of holding out until September. Over the last few weeks Ciara, Aisling and myself have been planning and organising many fun and cool ideas for our upcoming terms and we can't wait to share them with you all! We really believe in our work now more than ever and look forward to continuing our journey with you all soon.
If things have somewhat returned to normal during the Summer period and depending on how these new phases progress we may also try and organise a class or two for then, free of charge. In the meantime, we wish you and your families all the best.
Thank you and we will see you soon,
BTS Team

A huge congratulations to Josh on his episode of “Big Life Fix” on RTÉ last night. We all very much enjoyed it and thought both Josh and Erin, whose story was told along side Josh’s, were brilliant! And thanks again to RTÉ for accommodating us🎭

We could all use a bit of good news in these scary times, and we have just that! Our student Josh’ documentary “Big Life Fix” will be airing on RTÉ tomorrow at 10pm (25th of March).
We’re all very excited to watch Josh on the tv, and see if you can spot some other members from our Special Needs Class rehearsing their version of “The Greatest Showman” during the documentary!🎭

Thankfully, before the schools closed, we were able to see Oatlands & Sion Hills production of “All Shook Up.” Well done to everyone involved, including several cast members from our Youth Theatre, you guys did a great job!🎭

Hi Everyone,

I’m sure you’re aware that all schools and colleges are now closed until the 29th of March.

For us, our next three classes (tonight’s film class, tomorrow’s film class, and both drama classes on Saturday) will be canceled.

Lachlan, Ciara and I are currently discussing the best plan of action for the school and we will be in touch with you all over the next day or two.

In the meantime, please stay safe and let us know if you have any questions.

On Tuesday the Youth Theatre had their first read through for “A Blank Canvas.” Using the students ideal characters they want to play onstage as inspiration, we are very excited about how this script turned out!
