We were delighted to welcome two very special visitors to Sligo Central Library this week: H.E. Jonas Grinevičius, Ambassador of Lithuania to Ireland, and H.E. Séadhna MacHugh, Ambassador of Ireland to Lithuania.

During their visit to Sligo Central Library, the Ambassadors met members of our regular crafting group. Ambassador Grinevičius was presented with a special gift: a Sligo-themed hat that had been crafted in the library.
The visit continued at our Local Studies & Archive in the Westward Town Centre, where the Ambassadors had the opportunity to view some of the fascinating material held in the collection and learn more about Sligo’s local history and heritage.

The Ambassadors were welcomed by representatives of Sligo County Libraries and Europe Direct, including Dónal Tinney, County Librarian; Patricia Keane, Senior Executive Librarian; Brenda Cawley, Librarian and Europe Direct Manager; and Pat Gannon, Executive Librarian.

It was a wonderful opportunity to share some of the work taking place across Sligo County Libraries, from community groups and creativity to the preservation of Sligo’s rich local heritage, while celebrating the connections between Ireland and Lithuania.
