Rock Up & Climb: Scalp na gCapall

Join for an evening of outdoor rock climbing at Scalp na gCapall. This is a beginner-friendly session to give you an opportunity to experience top-rope climbing on natural rock.

No previous climbing experience is needed and all equipment will be provided.

Date: Wednesday, 15th July
Time: Drop in anytime from 7:00pm (session finishes at 9:00pm)
Location: Scalp na gCapall
Cost: €5 per person
Adults (18+) only

Please note: Parking at Scalp na gCapall is very limited, so carpooling is essential.

This is the third event in our Rock Climbing series, with another women-only session planned during HER Outdoors Week in August.

The Green Fort Archaeological Project - Community volunteers sought to take part in an archaeological excavation in Sligo Town in June 2026

The Green Fort Archaeology Project was conceived in 2023 following discussions between ATU archaeologists Dr Fiona Beglane and Dr Marion Dowd, Sligo County Council, and the National Monuments Service.

The focus of the project is to carry out archaeological excavations at the 17th century bastioned fort known as the ‘Green Fort’, which is located on Fort Hill, in Rathquarter townland in Sligo town. This is one of 65 bastioned forts in Ireland and one of seven such sites in Co. Sligo.
