Grange PPS took on Elphin Community College on Monday in the first round of the Junior Championship. The boys knew from the start that it would be a very physical encounter, so they began fast. Jack Kiernan, Daithi Conway, Noah Fagan, Keelan Langan King and Cathal Lang made sure we had the lead for the first half, while guys like Daniel McLoughlin, Finnian O’Connor, Ethan O’Boyle, John Ycaro, Sean Jordan and Darragh Oates made sure the defence was solid. Memphis Currid ensured that our goal remained intact with some super saves and great kickouts.
The score was 5-7 to 0-2 to Grange at half-time.
The lads came out roaring in the second half, with substitutes like David Wallace, Oisin Wallace, Nikko Ycaro, Cian McDonald, Ciaran Mulligan and Daire McCann making a great impact off the bench, while Matthew Moran and Michael Feeney continued to ensure that our defence remained hard to break down. Bryan McGloin also made a big impact when switched to full forward.
It was all rounded off by a brilliant 2-pointer from Daire Keiley as the boys got a deserved 6-13 to 2-6 win! Brilliant performances from Peter Phillips, Darragh Oates, Jack Kiernan, Cathal Lang, Daire Keiley and Daithi Conway ensure we look forward to next Tuesday’s game against Lough Allen in Drumkeeran with confidence.
