Huge achievement for Daniel, Jacob and team, congratulations from all at SCC👏👏👏👏

🇮🇪 Congratulations to Daniel Copithorne and Team Ireland on an outstanding performance at the U23 Youth World Match Racing Championships in Middelfart, Denmark! ⛵

At just 17 years old, Daniel was the youngest skipper at the event by several years, making this achievement even more remarkable.

Competing against 12 of the best youth match racing teams from around the world, Daniel and his crew put in a superb performance throughout the championship.

After a fiercely competitive round robin series filled with nail-biting finishes and photo-finish races, Team Ireland finished 10th overall, earning a chance to fight for 9th place against Slovakia.

The final ranking came down to a best-of-three sail-off, and Team Ireland delivered when it mattered most. With two back-to-back race wins, they secured a well-deserved 9th place finish in the world championship standings. 💪

A fantastic achievement on the international stage and a testament to the team’s determination, resilience, and racing skills throughout the week. Competing against older and more experienced crews, Daniel and his team showed maturity, composure, and talent well beyond their years.

Well done Daniel and crew – Ireland is proud of you! 🇮🇪👏

Everyone at Schull Community College and SCC Sailing Club wish 5th year Daniel Copithorne and Jacob Collins, 6th year, the very best of luck at the U23 Match Racing Worlds next week as they represent Ireland alongside their fellow sailors. The invitational event takes place from the 21-25 of June in Middelfart Denmark. This is a fantastic achievement for all involved and a testament to the talent and hard work shown by Daniel, Jacob and team. Best of luck to you all!

Last week, on their final day of school some of our junior cert students took advantage of the beautiful weather and went for a lovely walk on the magnificent Colla Loop Walk, one of the most scenic routes.

🎓Last week we celebrated our Transition Year students at their graduation ceremony and the successful completion of an incredible year.

From “The Wizard of Oz”, mini company, skiing, Dutch and German exchanges, work experience and watersports, to public speaking, barista training, Model United Nations, outdoor pursuits and so much more — it’s been a fun-filled, action-packed year full of new experiences, friendships and opportunities. Congratulations to all students on a fantastic TY journey🎓

Recently 2nd year SCC students went on an invigorating 10 kilometre nature walk along the scenic old Butter Road from Ballydehob to Schull, this was a lovely opportunity to spend time together outdoors as a year group as the year draws to a close.
