Professional Cyclist, Imogen Cotter, who was seriously injured in a head on collision in 2022 is calling on motorists to slow down and share the roads safely with people cycling as part of a new safety campaign being led by the RSA and Škoda Ireland. This comes off the back a new report that shows a worrying increase in people being seriously injured while cycling. For each cycling fatality during this time, there was an average of 25 serious injuries. We all have a responsibility, whether as motorists, cyclists, or pedestrians to share the road in a safe and responsible manner.

Driving this Easter weekend?
We urge drivers to take their time if setting out on a long journey and to recognise the signs of driver fatigue. If you feel tired while driving, Stop, Sip, Sleep. That’s stop somewhere safe, have a caffeinated drink and nap for 15 minutes.
Whatever you do, please don’t fight sleep at the wheel.

As a driver, you must not put a pedestrian at risk.
In particular, you must give way to pedestrians:
At a zebra crossing 🦓
At a pelican crossing 🐦
When the amber light is flashing 🟠
Crossing the road 🚶
and if you are moving off from a stationary position 🚗

You must maintain your car regularly and ensure it’s always in a proper working condition. This is the law and there are penalties for anyone who drives an unroadworthy vehicle in a public place.
