Industrial action involving members of the INTO in primary and special schools and the ASTI in second-level schools begins from Monday, 5 October.
For parents, the important thing is understanding what may change for your child and when.

Teachers involved will continue their normal contracted teaching day, but INTO members will stop participating in additional Croke Park Hours, including staff meetings and formal parent-teacher meetings held outside school hours. ASTI members are also beginning action involving withdrawal from selected activities including Croke Park Hours.
In some primary and special schools, Croke Park Hours have also been used to provide supervision before the official school day begins.
That means some families may be told:
๐ not to drop children off before the official opening time
๐ that some after-school arrangements may change
๐จโ๐ฉโ๐ง that parent-teacher meetings outside school hours may be affected
๐ฉ that other arrangements normally taking place outside the contracted school day may be rescheduled.
These arrangements will not be identical in every school. RTร reports that some parents have already been advised that early drop-off will no longer be possible where teachers had been providing that supervision through Croke Park Hours.

INTO and ASTI members are also due to participate in a wider 24-hour public-service strike.
ASTI has confirmed that pickets are planned at second-level schools where its members teach, while INTO has confirmed its members will participate in the nationwide action.
Parents should therefore be prepared for significant disruption or school closures on 14 October, but should wait for confirmation from their own school about exactly what will happen locally.

The industrial action forms part of a wider public-service dispute over pay and negotiations on a new agreement. This post is focused specifically on the practical impact for children and families.
๐ Has your school contacted you about what will happen from Monday?
And will changes to drop-off, collection or the proposed strike day create difficulties for your family?
