Learning, sharing and embracing Irish culture 🇮🇪🥁

Yesterday, our CIAA students got hands-on with a traditional bodhrán class, discovering the rhythm and history behind one of Ireland’s most iconic instruments.

The afternoon also featured a fantastic peer presentation on the Mulcahay Scholarship, giving students the opportunity to learn from one another, exchange ideas and celebrate the impact of the programme.

Another inspiring day of culture, collaboration and lifelong learning! ☘️

A well-deserved weekend for our CIAA students! ☘️✨

After a busy first week, many enjoyed the chance to catch up with family and friends, while others explored more of Galway at their own pace. The group also took part in a fascinating literary tour, discovering the rich history and stories that make this city so special.

The students were also proudly behind Galway in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final. While it wasn’t the result we were hoping for, the maroon and white had plenty of support from our CIAA group! 💜🤍

A perfect mix of culture, connection, and unforgettable experiences before another exciting week ahead. 🇮🇪📚

🎓 A day of discovery at the University of Galway!

Our students had the fantastic opportunity to explore one of Ireland’s leading universities, touring a range of faculties including the School of Medicine, the J.E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics, the Shannon College of Hotel Management, and many more.

From world-class facilities to inspiring conversations about future study and career opportunities, it was an eye-opening experience that gave our students a real insight into university life in Ireland.

Giving back to the community is an important part of the Celtic Irish American Academy experience. 💚🍃

Yesterday, our students spent time volunteering at the Circle of Life Organ Donor Garden in Salthill, helping to keep this beautiful and meaningful space clean by collecting litter.

It was a wonderful opportunity to learn about the importance of community service, environmental responsibility, and caring for places that hold special significance for so many people.

Small actions can make a big difference, and we’re incredibly proud of our students for making a positive impact during their time in Ireland. 🇮🇪♻️

Day 2 complete! 🇮🇪✨

Another unforgettable day for our students at the Celtic Irish American Academy!

The morning began with an inspiring guest lecture from Professor Andrea Broderick of Maastricht University and UNESCO, who shared valuable insights into UNESCO, the Sustainable Development Goals, and the importance of inclusive education.

The students then embraced Irish culture during a traditional tin whistle workshop with Erik Bromley, before spending the afternoon at Medtronic’s Global Centre of Excellence for Cardiac Digital Health. Meeting engineers and learning about cutting-edge medical technology gave everyone a fascinating insight into the world of STEM and innovation.

From global perspectives to Irish traditions and world-leading technology, Day 2 had it all! 🇮🇪🎶🔬

One of the highlights of the Celtic Irish American Academy programme is our excursion to the breathtaking Connemara region along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. 🌊🍀

Students will visit An Ghaeltacht, a stronghold of Irish culture where Gaeilge remains the dominant spoken language, explore the stunning landscapes of Connemara National Park, and discover the history and beauty of Kylemore Abbey.

As one writer beautifully described it:
”Connemara is a state of light. Of fluent sky, flayed rock and flowering bog. Of storied lake and inlet and deep song. Of wind and wild.”

The adventure continues with our Celtic Challenge - a trek to the summit of Diamond Hill, where students will experience some of Ireland’s most spectacular views while learning about the region’s unique environment and renewable energy initiatives.

An unforgettable day of culture, history, adventure, and discovery awaits. 🇮🇪✨
