Willow Outdoor Preschool

Willow Outdoor Preschool Outdoor pre-school service aimed at children aged 2yrs 8 months to 5.5yr olds. ECCE 2 free preschool years and NCS offered. We are located on Antogher Rd.

Morning session running from 9.00am-1.50pm. Willow Outdoor Preschool is proud to be Roscommon's first outdoor pre-school service where children spend their mornings learning and playing outside. We also have a purpose built indoor classroom and large floored poly tunnel for use on days of very inclement weather. With the sky as our ceiling and the earth our floor, our outdoor classroom offers a ri

ch environment full of open-ended opportunities for discovery and meaningful play. We believe in the importance of surrounding our children with beauty, engaging all their senses and giving them the time and space to play! We follow the educational framework of Aistear and our philosophy of education is also inspired and influenced by the Reggio Emilia educational approach. We believe that every child is capable, independent, inquisitive and innately driven to learn. Our role as educators is to scaffold this learning by providing a beautiful, inviting environment to explore, create and play in. We observe and document each child's interests as they develop and design activities based on these observations. We encourage discussion, problem solving and independence. Where better to do all this than outside where the the children are free to wonder, observe and connect with the natural world. five minutes from Roscommon town centre. The pre-school can be found nestled between green meadow, woodland and organic gardens. Dressed appropriately for the weather, the children spend their time digging, running, climbing, inventing, building, planting, growing, cooking, creating, pretending, singing, laughing and learning! For more information on the type of service we offer or to enrol your child please feel free to contact us by phone or email.

🌿 Let Me Be Outside 🌿

The “Let Me Be Outside” campaign, spearheaded by Roscommon CYPSC, highlights that Outdoor play is essential for healthy childhood development, helping children build confidence, creativity, resilience, friendships, and overall wellbeing.

Research continues to show that many children are spending less time outdoors than ever before.

Increased screen time, busy schedules, traffic concerns, and reduced access to safe green spaces are some of the contributing factors to this.

By encouraging more opportunities to play, explore, and connect with nature, we can help create healthier and happier childhoods for all children. 💚

Linda Kelly facilitated a fabulous native wildlife workshop for us today at Willow. It's so important for our children to learn about our native animals, birds and insects so they will develop a connection to them and grow up wanting to care for and protect our environment. Not only are the animals native to Ireland, Linda's beautiful photographs and videos were taken by her in Mote Park and other areas of Roscommon! So educational and captivating for the children.
