☀️ Sun’s out, turf’s out! 🫳🪵
With this brilliant stretch of weather, it feels like half the country has headed down to the bog. There’s nothing quite like the peace of the bog on a sunny day—but if you’re not careful, your back will be paying for it long after the winter fire is lit!
Footing turf is essentially one massive, repetitive manual handling marathon. Between the bending, twisting, lifting, and tossing, your body takes a serious hammering.
If you're out clamping and saving the turf this week, keep these quick tips in mind to protect your spine:
Bend the knees, not the back: Avoid the temptation to just bend from the waist. Get down low to the sod.
Pivot, don't twist: When moving turf from the ground to the foot, move your feet instead of twisting your spine under load.
Take regular stretch breaks: Stand up, gently stretch the lower back, and change your stance often.
Stay hydrated: The sun is cracking the flags, and dehydration makes muscles much more prone to strains and injuries.
Enjoy the sunshine, enjoy the chat, but mind your lifting technique! A saved bank of turf is great, but a ruined back isn't worth the trade.
Safe footing everyone! 🚜💨
