Scoil Phobail Sliabh Luachra fondly remembers the visit of Holocaust survivor and author Tomi Reichental, who spoke to our students in 2010. Organised by Karen Sullivan, the visit provided a powerful opportunity to hear first-hand testimony from a survivor of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.

Tomi shared his experiences with honesty, dignity and hope, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended. He later documented his remarkable story in his acclaimed memoir, I Was a Boy in Belsen.

Following his passing, we remember Tomi Reichental and his message of tolerance, remembrance and standing against hatred, which continues to inspire our school community.

May he rest in peace.

What a fantastic way to celebrate the end of an unforgettable Transition Year 2026 🎓🍕🎂🥤

Our TY students marked their graduation with pizza, soft drinks, and a beautiful graduation cake as they reflected on a year filled with adventure, achievement, learning, and friendship.

Throughout the year, students embraced every opportunity that came their way. They proudly represented the school in competitions including the Student Enterprise Awards, Scifest, and YSI, showing incredible creativity, teamwork, and innovation.

There were also many memorable trips and activities along the way — from the overnight Art trip to Dublin and the overnight Gaisce walk to Kenmare, to exciting sporting adventures including canoeing, padel, rock climbing, go-karting, and paintballing.

Students gained valuable life skills and qualifications too, earning certificates in CPR, Coding, Driving Safety, Financial Literacy, and many more.

We are extremely proud of everything this wonderful group has achieved during their TY journey. We wish them every success as they move into Senior Cycle, and we especially wish safe travels and the very best to those returning home across Europe.

Remember — you now have the skills, confidence, and experiences to help shape who you become in the world. The future is yours, and we cannot wait to see where it takes you. 🌟

Huge congratulations to our TY students on successfully completing their Adventure Journey as part of their Bronze Gaisce Award! 👏🥾

Over the course of the journey, students showed fantastic teamwork, resilience, independence and positivity while taking on the challenge together. From planning and preparation to completing the trek, they represented the school with great spirit and determination.

Well done to all involved — a memorable achievement and an important milestone on their Gaisce journey! ⭐🇮🇪

May 21st is World Day for Cultural Diversity. 🌍

The theme for 2026 was “culture connects us”.

So with this in mind a “Learn & Lunch” was hosted by Ms. Cooper, Ms Kelly and Ms. Riordan.

It gave pupils the chance to:
• Learn about other traditions and backgrounds.
• Celebrate diversity and inclusion.
• Meet new people and hear different stories.
• Share their your own culture proudly.
• Make new friendships and connections.

Thanks to all the students who attended and contributed to this event. You all exemplified the SPSL ethos of “Learning and Serving in a Caring Community” ❤️
