𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆. 🎓

Leaving Certificate results can feel like they decide everything at once. They do matter — but they are only one part of a much bigger picture.

There is more than one path after the Leaving Cert.

For some students, university will be the right fit. For others, the next step might be an apprenticeship, Further Education and Training (FET), a PLC course, a tertiary programme, training or moving directly into work.

If your results have changed the plan you had in mind, that does not necessarily mean the destination is gone. Sometimes there is another pathway to the same place — and sometimes exploring the alternatives can open up an option you had not considered before.

👉 Swipe through our carousel to explore some of the options and things to keep in mind as you think about what comes next.

For parents, this can be a good time to keep the conversation open. Ask what your young person is interested in, what they want from their next step and what information they still need, rather than feeling that one particular pathway has to be the answer.

Experienced guidance counsellors on the National Parents and Students Leaving Certificate Helpline can help students and parents understand the different pathways, what options remain open and a wide range of other guidance-related questions.
