One of the most common misconceptions I hear is that phonological awareness and phonemic awareness are the same thing. They aren’t. Think of phonological awareness as the umbrella. Under that umbrella are skills such as:
✔️ Rhyming
✔️ Alliteration
✔️ Sentence segmentation
✔️ Syllable awareness
✔️ Onset-rime awareness
✔️ Phonemic awareness
Phonemic awareness is the most advanced level because it requires students to identify, blend, segment, and manipulate the individual phonemes (speech sounds) in words.

🌸🌈 Stay cool with a colourful handmade paper fan! This simple craft is perfect for little hands and gives children the chance to explore colours, patterns and decorations while creating something they can actually use.

🧺 Materials:

* Coloured or patterned paper
* Felt-tip pens
* Stickers, gems and ribbons
* Lolly sticks
* Glue
* Optional: small flowers or bows for decoration

✨ How to:

1. Decorate your paper with drawings, stickers or colourful patterns.
2. Fold the paper back and forth like an accordion.
3. Pinch one end together and glue it onto a lolly stick.
4. Add ribbons, bows or gems for extra sparkle, then fan it open and enjoy!

A fun process art activity that’s perfect for warm summer days! ☀️

The more children can build a relationship with these in aspects nature, the more they can embody that dynamic expression of both strength and softness. Yes, it is possible to walk in this way! ~ xo Nicolette Sowder
