Our story ended in the toughest possible way but the journey was one to remember. Everyone has their own story on this team and mine like many others was making the time to do something I loved and lost. Making the time for me, for my mental and physical health and putting myself back in the basketball and sporting world and I am so glad that I did. Last November I attend trials. Not knowing anyone. Not being very good and finding my feet again. Fast forward to now and I have represented my country for the first time and been a part of the first ever irish master's mens team to medal at a championship. This group of players and management have been the most welcoming, supportive and most amazing team to be around. Sport is not easy. I can honestly say the losses are the ones you remember more than the wins and I know thats a sad way to say it but its true. Any competitor always looks back at the defeats and thinks what if........ You will never succeed without failure and its about being brave and strong enough to put yourself in those positions. I am 47. I find myself back doing what I did and what I loved as a teenager and it feels amazing. I have a new lease of life because of this and I have my family and my teammates to thank for it. This is not a sad ending but a wonderful new beginning of health, happiness, friendships and going winning the fu***ng gold next year π.
To anyone who played a part in this new journey I want to say thank you. It has put a smile on my face and helped me more than you know.
