Karate Nationals – Competition Overview
What an incredible day at the National Karate Championships in Waterford SETU this weekend. Catarina Nepomuceno, TY , proudly representing Naas Karate Club and St Mary College Naas, delivered an unforgettable performance that had every one of us on the edge of our seats from start to finish.
Competing in both kata and kumite, she showcased her focus, discipline, and true warrior spirit. While she performed strongly in both categories, it was in kumite where Catarina truly shone. From the very first exchange, the atmosphere was electric – a tense opening that had us all holding our breath.
Midway through the bout, Catarina was taken down, and for a moment the tension was palpable. But what followed was nothing short of extraordinary. With immense composure, heart, and determination, she rose back to her feet and launched into one of the most powerful comebacks of the day. Every movement was sharp, controlled, and driven by pure resolve. It was impossible not to shout with joy as she fought her way back into the match.
Her grit and spirit carried her all the way to a well-earned silver medal – a result that reflects her hard work, resilience, and passion for the sport. The entire team at Naas Karate Club could not be prouder.
Catarina proved that champions are not defined by whether they fall, but by how they rise. A phenomenal performance and a truly deserving achievement. We are all so very proud of you, Catarina. Well done!!

What an Incredible Weekend for Naas Karate Club at the National Championships! 🥋🔥
We are beyond proud of every single one of our students who competed at the National Karate Championships in SETU Waterford this weekend. From the moment each competitor stepped onto the mat, they showed grit, determination, and a level of focus like we’ve never seen before.
The competition was massive, the standard was sky-high, and yet our students rose to the challenge with courage and confidence. Whether kata or kumite, beginner or seasoned competitor, they represented Naas Karate Club with heart and honour.
And while medals are always a wonderful bonus, they are not what define success. The truth is simple:
Anyone who steps onto that tatami is already a winner.
It’s the mindset, the discipline, the resilience, and the pride in wearing that gi that makes each of our students champions in their own right.
This weekend proved just how strong, supportive, and hardworking our karate family is. We could not be prouder of every punch thrown, every stance held, and every bow taken.
Well done to all, your efforts, spirit, and sportsmanship were inspiring. Here’s to continuing the journey, growing stronger, and celebrating every step along the way!
Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances there is NO training tonight in St Marys
