*THE BIG SMALL METHOD*
How to use this method as a tool:
Sit in front of your piano and go through the example of building E major above. Then start choosing random notes (black and white) to build major chords from. Use the 'Big Small method' to figure out your major triad and fact check with your ear. Listen closely - does it have that quintessential HAPPY "the sun has just come out and I am eating an ice cream" sound? Fab! You're playing major chords!
*Note: if what you're playing does not have that classic major sound there is something off, go back and double check that you're skipping 3 notes first, then 2. Your ear will guide you.
Building your chord vocabulary can open many doors as a pianist leading you to play new songs with ease and adding to your sense of creativity and confidence as a player.
Try to play as many major chords as possible using this method and it will become natural for you!
Any questions, pop them below! 🎹💛

Your weekly Top Tip from Home Tone Piano Academy to make sure you get the most from your piano practicing!
Our days are so busy and so hectic now it can be hard to find time to fit anything else in. We can become overwhelmed quite easily at the long list of thing that need to get done!
One way to beat the overwhelm (if you are a parent of a piano student or an adult piano student), is to fit piano practice into your daily / weekly schedule.
Your routine will look different to the next persons', but having a look at your week and figuring out where you can find 10-30 minutes of practice time consistently will really help you.
Maybe you practice in the mornings before leaving the house.
Maybe you practice in the evenings after dinner.
Once you find the time that suits you, merely focusing on sitting down at the piano will help your practice become part of your routine. This is half the battle! Anything you do from here will be hugely beneficial!

Are you an early Christmas planner?
I most certainly AM NOT, except when it comes to Christmas music!!
I've started talking about Christmas music with my piano students to make sure that they have time to learn their favourite pieces to play on the piano during the Christmas holidays. It's always nice to have a few festive tunes to play for family and friends!
What is your favourite (or LEAST favourite) Christmas song? Do share, especially if you want to get a least favourite song off your chest, go on I dare you!
