We were honoured to host Fr John O’Brien, OFM, Fr Sean Murphy, OFM, and their guests at Multyfarnham Cookery School recently for such a special occasion.

Both Fr John and Fr Sean are celebrating their Golden Jubilee this year, and it was a pleasure to be part of the celebrations. ❤️

Almost 100 people gathered in the Franciscan Abbey in Multyfarnham last Friday to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of popular friar and prolific author Fr John O’Brien, OFM.

🌱 Growing our own micro herbs and baby greens at Multyfarnham Cookery School

We’ve been enjoying growing our own micro herbs and baby greens here at MCS and using them in the kitchen. 👩‍🍳🌱

They’re surprisingly easy to grow, and it’s great being able to snip fresh herbs and add them straight to our dishes.

A big thank you to Ollie at Betterplants.ie for introducing us to the system and helping us get started. It’s a great little setup for growing fresh micro herbs at home, with a built-in grow light.

We’ve been enjoying it so much that we’re keeping them growing and using them regularly in our cooking. 😊

If you’re interested in growing your own, Ollie at Better Plants can help with advice and ideas, and the growing kits are available through their website. We also have a small number of units at the cookery school, which you can collect after a class or by contacting us.

🌶️ A Few Last-Minute Places Available – Friday 11 September

Due to a last-minute cancellation, we now have a few places available for our Tastes of Asia – Spice Blending & Cooking Demonstration this Friday evening.

Join us for an evening exploring the flavours of India, Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia, including spice blending, curry powders and pastes, cooking techniques and plenty of tasting along the way.

You’ll enjoy a selection of freshly prepared dishes, with recipes to take home and try yourself.

A relaxed and enjoyable evening for anyone who loves Asian food and wants to learn more about spices and flavours.

🍎 A little behind the scenes…

Kamalika has been busy in the kitchen experimenting with and developing recipes using Belvedere apples ahead of the Belvedere Food & Apple Festival. 👩‍🍳🍎

The Belvedere apple is a special Irish heritage variety, discovered at Belvedere itself and known for its beautiful pink-to-crimson flesh.

From preparing the apples and experimenting with the ingredients to cooking, tasting and putting the final dish together, there has been plenty happening behind the scenes!

Kamalika will be doing a live cooking demonstration at 2pm on Sunday, 6 September, at the festival at Belvedere House, Gardens & Park.

Come along, watch the demonstration, pick up some useful cooking tips and feel free to ask Kamalika questions along the way.

Last-Minute Place Available – Children’s Cooking Camp.

We’ve had a last-minute cancellation, so one place has just become available for tomorrow’s Children’s Summer Cooking Camp.

👩‍🍳 Ages 5–12
📅 Friday, 21 August
⏰ 11am–2pm

It’s a fully hands-on cooking experience where children make everything from scratch and learn practical kitchen skills, safe cutting, preparing ingredients, cooking and checking food temperatures, all while having fun and building confidence.
